Here is a pic of the Alpine GPS screen that I added to my new E55. Not ideal, but better than waiting for a car with the COMMAND system. The GPS function works great and the screen, while looking like an add-on, doesn't impinge on the passenger's legroom or on access to controls. So, a not so bad compromise.
