K its time for you all who know more than me to start advising...

They are completely disassembling the car, including unwelding the rear end from the uni-body.

Can i possibly keep the car after this? Is it worth even trying to sell and get another? Should i be suing this girls who ruined my dream car come true? The nice service fellow told me no chance of it getting totalled.

WTF FML

Best phone call ever., "Mr. C....., your e63amg is a uni body structure meaning one body that comes welded from the factory to very specific standards in order to ensure safety at speeds over 150mph. We are going to have to break those welds and cut the car in half to repair the damage to the rear end. you can come by the shop and watch them technicians do this as it is a very unusual procedure.... the only time these welds are ever made on any car is by a machine in the factory. You can come watch a human being make these integral welds while another human being holds the car frame together."

uhhhh, i believe a big fat F M L is in order right now

Your car will never be the same. Period. They can't make those welds as well as a machine.

i'd hold off and get your insurance adjuster to be present or give his estimate of the damages. It may better off to get a check from them. Car will never be the same, especially knowing in the back of your mind it was cut in half.

That really sucks. My C32 was hit in a parking lot and whoever did the damage just drove off and did not leave a note on the car. The driver's door was bowed in pretty bad.

Anyway, just be glad that the "horrific looking beast" has insurance. A friend of mine got hit by an illegal immigrant who did not have any insurance. My friend is a huge, intimidating guy and he scared the immigrant so bad that he pulled $500 cash out of his pocket and handed it to my friend. I don't know why the immigrant had $500 in his pocket, but fortunately for my friend, the damage estimate came to a little less than $500, something like $490 if I remember correctly. He fixed the vehicle and then sold it because it never felt as good as it did before the accident.

Glad you were not injured. I always feel safe driving my E63. Whether you decide to sell the car or keep it after it is fixed, I wish you luck and hope everything works out smoothly for you.

K so update is not the end of the world. They are cutting the car under the edges of the trunk lid. Straight down on each side b/c the metal underneath is what took the worst of the crash, its pretty mashed under there. Other than that and a new rear bumper the car fared pretty well. The trunk lid is fine so i can keep that with the factory paint. The bumper will be the only new piece that is visible to that outside world. They'll give me a new trunk motor and new tail lights. I got underneath myself to poke around and the exhaust didnt even get touched. Her car basically rode my bumper down and hit the metal underneath. lucky me. Estimate stands around $11,000 and they say i should have it back 2 weeks from monday.

Now, i have a question if anyone has ever gone through something like this before and has any wisdom to impart.... Insurance guys told me since i just bought the car that i need to take it to 3 dealerships and get written bids on my car taking the damage into account. They said the average of those bids, subtracted from what i just paid, represents the diminished value claim we will submit to her insurance. So basically I get the money up front for the value she took out of my car.
Are they blowing smoke or what?

Got it back today, 22 days apart. All is right in the world.

There was some overspray on my fender but they took care of it. Other than that everything looks and works like new. There seems to be a little rattle when letting off the gas at low speeds e.g. approaching speed bumps. I took it out and about and it ran great. Just have to put the time and effort into making a diminished value claim again her insurance.....

On a light note, when i test drove it i pulled along a 911turbo all murdered out (blk rims, tints, lights, everything - nice).. then a DB9.. which was followed by a new C63. Then i had to laugh when i pulled along a new E63. Before i could finish my childish chuckle about seeing so many sick cars in so little time, as i waited to make a left, 2 identical S63's cruised past me and a SL63 came from the opposite direction.

There is definitely no recession around here.
