How about the audi RS6?

The mags seem to indicate that it's more "fun" than either an M5 or E55. Speedwise it's a little faster than an M5 up to about 90mph and then it's all M5. Of course the E55 is by far the quickest. Road and Track gave it a pretty high margin over the other regarding handling and "fun" factor.

I would consider it however it appears an aged body style.

This topic has been hashed and rehashed.
The major negatives of the RS6:
1) resale will plummet in a heartbeat compared to the E55.
2) RS6 body style will be outdated within a year, as there's already a new A6 in the wings.
3) interior design in the RS6 is not nearly as nice or luxurious as E55--just no comparison.
4) while the E55 is very stealthy for a high torque rocket, the RS6 looks practically wimpy it's so vanilla.

There's only one advantage the RS6 has over any other car in this class: 4WD. Very nice in inclement weather and helps to apply torque to the pavement.

C32
I drove the rs4 and I was amazed by its power.
Because it has 4WD it an beat M5, M3, C32 etc and most porches going 0-100 Kmh (I believe it was 4,7 sec)
The car handles very good on dry, but can outhandle almost anything in wet conditions.

However the Rs4 has a nasty turbo lag which is bothering sometimes.

Never drove an Rs6 but I guess its a real mean machine !

Let the numbers speak for themselves (today's german car magazine Auto, Motor und Sport issue):

E55
0-100 kph (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds
0-160 kph (100 mph) in 9.4 seconds
0-200 kph (125 mph) in 14.2 seconds

Audi RS6
0-100 kph (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds
0-160 kph (100 mph) in 10.6 seconds
0-200 kph (125 mph) in 17.9 seconds (SLK32 AMG: 17.6 seconds)

However: track performance was slightly better with the RS6 but the car used Pirelli PZero Rosso tires.

Yes, the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG out-runs the Audi RS 6 in a straight line, but have you ever thought about corners? The RS 6 will smoke the E55 AMG in corners and twists.

2003 E55 AMG
kain,

I think you are wrong because I think it also depends on your driving skills and how good you are on those twists and turns as well. Very few people can take cars like E55 or RS6 to its limits anyway.

You need pretty nasty corners and twists for that.
As somebody else said: it depends on the driver.
Over here in Germany, the E55 is the perfect Autobahn car for me.
There is no situation where the Audi would have a real advantage (well, maybe on wet streets because I hate the ESP setup on the E55) for me personally.
And last but not least: there is no official 300 kph speed limit raise for the RS6. I like to play it safe.
