You are correct sir. I am a cheap ******* "sometimes" and I have not made that my first mod either. I really should have but I just havent yet.
The first thing I put in my both my Supras was an LSD.

I have a question about this video as well. At 1:39 (esp on) you can see the brakes kill the forward movement as traction control turns on.

But at 2:03... (esp off) both wheels are clearly spinning? Whats the deal.. I thought with an open diff only one wheel got drive?

Great question. This mod is a no brainer and you can always find a great price on a quaife.
ACG and TTM can hook it up!![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)
One of the best mods on my 55k no question. Completely changed the car for the better.

To my knowledge MB only offered it with 030 package which wasn't available until the CLS debuted in 2006. I'm sure they offered it on other models such as the SL65 for one but not on the E55. Some E63 guys 2007 & up may have LSD with their 030 package but I'm not 100% sure so those guys will have to chime in.

why?
because there's not much need for it...zero improvement in 0-60, 60ft, or 1/4mile. the only improvement the quaiffe did for me was to make exiting a corner under a little too much power more predictable. in fact, if i hadn't twisted an axle in my stock diff and ruined it i'd still be just fine with my factory open diff.

Imagine the forces being applied at the track. Braking, while other side being opened up both on a super sticky surface with diesel truck style torque. Something is gonna give eventually. Hammerdown drags his car regularly though without LSD and not a hitch.

Good eye. It's a pseudo LSD. The side that is losing traction is getting brake applied to that side while the car transfers the power to the other side of the car thus the LSD style burnout ANNND the couple of twisted rear diffs we have had at tracks when guys are doing burnouts in modded cars.

I had to search the web to understand whats going on.. the power is following the path of least resistance. As the right wheel gets braked more... its the path of more resistance so the power shifts to the left. Since my truck doesnt have brake activated traction control... the drive wheel is always the wheel of least resistance so the power never shifts to the left and the right wheel just spins and spins. And here I thought I understood how an open diff works.
that explains why the quaife offers such low rewards in straight line acceleration. I couldnt make any sense of their published figures. I figured they would be really high rewards since the wheels dont spin... The MB system works so well.. like you said.. its a psuedo lsd.
