Drag Day at Steele Alabama in November

We got there around 9pm and it opened for business. My setup was running the MT drags at 20lbs, no ice in the trunk res as that town did not have a gas station for miles. We also did not get to install my braille battery so that was a bummer, 40lbs is alot of weight.
Anywho, no time like the present, I jumped in the beast and got to the stage lanes, did my burnout in the water box and rolled up to the line. As for this track having good prep and lots of VHT, I did not experience that at all. I brought my rpms up slightly and when the lights tree'd down, put my foot through the floor board
Went sideways all through first and most of second but stayed in it. The bottom of the track has alot of deep ridges in it, and feels like you are skating side to side along with a massive hump which in comfort mode and going 130mph does not feel great.I pull up to the hut to get my first slip with this stage 3 combo, and I was rewarded with a 2.1 60 ft 12.1 et and 124 trap......
I hot lapped and jumped right back into the staging lanes, same thing, burnout up to the tree and launched with the same procedure. Something was wrong as a 1/3 way down the track, the blower shut down so I pull up to our trailor area. While tinkering in the engine bay area over the past few days I must have pulled the cord loose that runs the fan. I plugged that B***h up and went at it. This time I hit a 1.9 60ft with a 11.99 at 126mph. Again, spinning the hell out of 1st and second.
I then let Tony take her down the track to see his launch style and we were on, he hit a 1.67 60 ft 124mph and a 11.30. Track temps were in the high 40's so we air'd my tires down to 18lbs and let it rip. I got the best pass of the night at 11.27 at 126mph with a 1.799 60 ft.
I was very pleased with that result with it been the first time out and terrible track conditions. I am going to make a few small tweeks and head to Reynolds on the 19th of November for round two. On alot of my runs, we had the GoPro running and actual filming from the tree.
I will get the slips put up this week along with the video footage. In conclusion, we will not be going back due to poor track prep and actual surface of the track. Track was not well lit up either. Jason broke the record in his blown M5 and is now the fastest E39 M5 on drag times.
I will let Bart (FASN8N) post his results, he ripped some amazing times.
But I gotta give you some **** for not running 10's. Those 1.5 60' time are easy right?
And congrats on your sick time on a first time out.

My car is bone stock and here are the stats for my best run:
60 ft 1.987
8th 8.20 at 87.9 mph
1/4 12.627 at 111.64

Great times bro..
I predicted 10's from 3 very strong cars this season!! Forrest's, Your car and Low Pro's..so far is all staying at the 60' mark, but i know it takes some trial and error.
I've got my money on the heaviest of all three

Good luck to all three and go get that 10.775

Craig rolling the beast off the trailer and getting ready to head to the staging lanes.

Craig backing into the burn out box hoping to find some traction

Craig lining up with his next victim (I think his best time was @11.2 with no traction)

Craig describing how his car felt like the rear end was on ice skates due to the bumpiness at the end of the track

The Buckhead Import Performance RMS Supercharged M5 hoping to claim fastest E39 M5 title tonight (I believe he produced a traction limited 11.73 vs. the current record of 11.77)

The M5 lined up waiting to break a record and praying for some traction (car could not hook in this weather/track prep)

The wagon waiting to prove it can haul some groceries

The wagon lined up with a real drag car

The wagon is ready to let it rip

The wagon waiting for the green light

Overall we had a great time and probably surprised more than a few good ol boys running their Mustangs, Corvettes, Diesel trucks, Church van, pair of 4-wheelers, etc.
We were thankful our "drag cars" had seat heaters and good tunes while waiting in the staging lanes before the runs
The 3+ hour drive there and back was worth it, even though I made it home at 5am.
With better traction, I could probably get a 12.50 @112, but I am pretty happy with the 12.62 for my first outing in a stock car. Now, I have the itch for some mods

Your car (and Jason's M5) took home honors for the best sounding cars that evening! Your E55 running the open header exhaust bypass could wake the dead lol.
Borrow your drags, hmmm? Now I need to plan some mods to try for 11's

FYI, I dropped my DR pressure to 16.5, and got a 1.66 with no prep on a cool night. I would say that if you can't hook, keep taking air out until you are on flats, then go home

I'll IM you on how to prevent the engine cut out during your burn out.. and no, it's not Dyno mode. That takes too long to turn on / off, and I don't have the ***** to run in dyno mode.

Why have you not posted on Drag Times yet??? My god, that should be the FIRST thing you do when you get home with a time like that!!

But the burnout is the key!! Forget heatsoak because of the burnout, you'll hook so hard that it wont even matter plus i am sure you have a great Cooling system and "IF" you have meth, run it "only" for the burnout. You want a nice burnout? Dyno mode is what you need and keep it ON
Bramage grow some cojones

You wanna build a 500+ hp car and want safety.. what safety is there in a 800hp 86 Stang or 83' Grand National ??

until then, press and hold the Traction Control Button for 5 seconds = dyno mode express. Let me know if it works for your burn outs!! and leave it that way if you have "huevos grandismos"

I had no clue about that trick, that really works? sounds good but will that turn it off completely? or should i say almost completely since even on dyno mode ECU steps in..I mean i really never feared dyno mode and my car seemed no different except for the stiffer brake pedal
So Dane, you hold the traction control for 5 seconds and does that put you into dyno mode? If you want to exit dyno mode, you just do it again? I am definitely going to find a empty parking lot, dyno mode that SOB, and then slam on the brakes to see how she behaves
Next track day looks like November 19 with the Muscle Car Evolution folks in Reynolds

PM replied !! Oh, and yes, the 5 second thing seems to work fine on a dyno, so I assume it would work at the track. It does not invoke traction control at all.. no light, no stutter. I have yet to test in the real world.
