Head Removal for gas flow.

I am considering removing the heads for a gas flow mod...

Anything to be conscious of for head removal other than the obvious cautions?

Any guidelines for bolt torque and sequencing?

TIA

Very easy motor to work on, just be cognitive of what you already stated. Since you have them off, I would just do the obvious things as valve job ,seals, etc.... A few here have had some flow work done on theirs, not sure if their willing to share any secrets with you. The heads are nothing special and I'm sure any competent head machinist with the proper equipment can get some nice flow out of them. Not as if there is only one good machinist in the country.

Many specialists in the UK at this and one shop I found does incredible work but crumbs they are not cheap....Around $3k equivalent.

Luckily they have already mapped this head and done a set before and achieved 18% increase in flow. All CNC programmed and cut, as well as taped finishing.

Kleemann claim 5-8% power increase, so thats 30-50 HP depending on your baseline, not shabby at all. But the Kleemann dyno shows massive gains low down in torque based on their 168 pulley. I would not have expected such a big gain in torque low down but more at top with this mod...?

What about a tune I assume a higher flowing head would lean you out some?

Also I assume a flowed head would suit the 180mm pulley better than a 168mm?

Would I see a drop in boost? ... as we know not necesarily a bad thing.

Not sure about doing all the other bits as car only has 16500 Miles on it...........

If I do the mod, I will document it for all....

I thought the same thing, but thats definitely not the case. It takes a lot of work to get the proper flow out of them. When brooke got his done, they used a junk set for testing and it took some time!

look at brookes threads. His results were amazing to say the least.

Yes, your lean, yes you will drop boost and a bigger pulley is that much better.

i would figure if the heads are off you should also send out the intake manifold for some port matching as well . Use to do this on the fox body 302 mustangs for some nice power increases as well.

Hmm port matching the inlets means sending the S/C in as well ... would be nice but think thats mbe something I could tidy up.

They will port match the kleemann headers foc so at least thats a help....

Suppose a 82 TB upgrade makes sense...

Gosh this little project is adding up, but need to be prepared for the Evosport Intercoolers!!!!!
