E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
In other words, it will continue to read your old mileage, add to it, but not display it. The mileage on this car is located in multiple places.

If you use a cluster with more than 1000 Km (620 Miles) on it you will NOT see a milages display and the cluster will not be authorized by the drive system. If the cluster has less than 1000 Km you can use to STAR to authorize the cluster and mileage will show up. If it has more than 1000 Km all that will show on your cluster is "-----".

i find pushing them out from the rear would be easiest, cant say i have pulled my w211 one out, but done it on the w202 many times. The cluster pullingtool can crack the perspex if you slip.

Gauge cluster experts, anyone car to take a look at this thread?

Pointers greatly appreciated. No issues with mileage... but several other unexpected ones.

The whole list of gory details are in my link above, but basically I tried upgrading from 160mph gauges to 180 mph gauges... They were from another Benz, and I had the VIN zeroed so that when I plugged into mine, the cluster would work and the mileage would be close.
The fuel gauge on that one wouldn't work, so I went back to my OE 160mph gauges and pulled the needles so I could swap the overlay to a white one from a SLK 320... (my oe gauge face were black).
Upon reinstalling the OEM gauge cluster, the fuel gauge still doesn't work (???) and the needles, which I thought were pinned on straight, went haywire when I reconnected the negative cable.
Too much PITA for the reward. I'm still trying to get a working fuel gauge, no luck. At the moment, the AMG gauges work better but are not in the car...

When my '04 cluster burnt out, the dealership, under CPO, swapped it for an '05 without me even asking. ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
It definitely does work. At what mileage, idk. I would listen to the guys above.
