Datalogger system - just Checking in...

It's been a while since I have been looking for gauges/dataloggers etc .. After searching for a while seems like the Dashdaq/Zeitronix combination is still one of the best. Threads I have found are somewhat old .. wondering if this combo is still the best set up in people's opinions?

I was about to buy the combo on Needswings.com. If anyone knows of any better systems, better places to purchase or coupons for Needswings, please let me know .. you guys usually have the most updated information and best advice on this type of stuff ... and don't lack opinions !

Thanks!

+1

I have the ZT2 and Dashdaq, also have a 3.5bar MAP sensor all hooked into a dashdaq. Will probably pick up a ZT3 to monitor the other bank along with an EGT probe.

I believe Bruce at TTM also sells the full setup.

I was really stuck between the Zietronix and the Innovate LM-2. Ended up getting the LM-2 full kit with case for $300 new to my door and couldn't pass it up. I'll let you know if it has any limitations but clearly the Zietronix is the best out there but costs over 2X more...

Is the car all buttoned up yet?

Zeitronix / Dashdaq / Rob Needswing.com
^ Agreed 100%
This was the advice I was given, and have been fully satisfied.

This will be a good thread to post up some of the data I collected while doing my set up.

I got the kit with a ZT-2 and Dashdaq from Rob. Rob went out of his way to find information to help set this up. I just added a ZT-3 to get AFR on bank 2

I set up the following:

Boost - Sensor from Rob
Throttle Position Sensor - Tap into C3/21
RPM - Tap into Cam Position Sensor (C3/2) If you tap into RPM signal, you will get crazy spikes
AFR Bank 1 - ZT-2 included O2
AFR Bank 2 - ZT-3 included O2

(Note: ZT-3 does only AFR, but is much cheaper. Good alternative if that's all you want to log)

I get the following from the OBDII Connector:

Air Intake Temp
Long Temp Fuel Trim
Short Term Fuel trim
Speed
Timing

With this set up, any competent tuner can fine tune under real world conditions. It is amazing the difference you will see between a dyno and a true pull.

Here is the info for tapping into RPM / TPS (Thanks ROB at Needswing!!!)

Hey Ali and others and especially Bramage in this thread - awesome info!

Thanks for the advice .. especially thanks to you Ali for your help. Between you and Shardul you guys have been awesome for my mods! I never knew your screen name on here until now .

The car is all back together and I have been driving it for a couple of days. It is running a tad rich but that is ok I have checked a couple of plugs and they are not fouled so that's good. But there is a very slight miss and it is getting lazy to start. Not sure what is going on here. I want to check all the cylinders (just been checking the random one or two. I have just bought plug wires too cos it's still running the original ones!

I was going to put on one of my Prologgers to log A/F, RPM and boost but thought, I should consider the Zeitronix and Dashdaq after reading about so many positive comments about it. Another thing about the Dashdaq is that it can work with my AEMs so I could potentially pull it out and connect to AEM. I have tried one of the Innovates a long time (first gen)ago but it was huge and not real pretty LOL.

That skin looks eerily familiar, Bramage!! Big thanks to Dane, Shardul and others here on the forums for making the installation a breeze! Without their help it would have been a much more difficult installation!

Good info Dane, and thanks again for the skin.

I have a couple of realted questions. Has anyone attempted tapping into the stock MAP sensor and feeding that signal to User1 or 2? From what I can gather, you can program for an additional temperature or pressure reading. What zeitronix does not state though is if they use a floating signal. We already know how tempermental the electronics are for Mercedes.
Thoughts and/or opinions welcome.

Old Thread, but do you know guys if with only a ZT-2, without dashdaq, with PCMSCAN or ScanXL from Palmer performance engeniering can read also aux sensors from the ZT-2?

Any one tested it?

Using that now. The problem is dataloging via Bluetooth. I would like a hardwire option.
I am considering buying this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001LIULX6/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_2? ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

You made it working via bluetooth or are you saying that it have some problem?

By the way, do you have a zt-2 with only o2 sensor or you have more things connected?

If zt-2 can pass data from aux sensors and TPS, EGT, etc. to ScanXL/PCMSCAN I definetly will buy one over LM-2 from innovate, if not, LM-2 makes more sense and is cheaper and can have Bosch LSU4.9

No Zeitronics parts. I am using PLX parts altogether and dataloging via Bluetooth. SM-AFR setup with the iMFD and dataloging with the Palmer software in the above link

What kind of issues are you running into with the Palmer setup and Bluetooth? I am thinking about picking up that setup myself

Datalogging in graph format to send to a tuner is still a *****. The Kiwi bluetooth option isn't always reliable and I believe OBDII data is a step behind the AFRs from the SM unit. Carrying a laptop is no bueno just for datalogging. I might buy that logger and see if that works better

Very easy to install and seem pretty accurate

Ok, I found it finally.

It looks it's possible and easy!

See my attached picture, ScanXL can read also the sensors from the zeitronix ZT-2.

I will get a ZT-2 unit now that I know I can datalog from external sensors and from OBD2.

I am interested in logging from my laptop. It's much easier to manipulate the data in spreadsheets and what not. What are my options for logging? Also I have the Innovate Wideband standalone so that would be nice to be able to interface with the software as well.
