E55 Performance Upgrades
I did some performance testing tonight that I thought may be of interest.
My tests are done on the freeway using a GTech Pro. I do all tests on the same two sections, on opposite sides of the road and my numbers are highly repeatable. In testing, 0-100km times show less than .05sec variance and rear wheel HP figures less than 5hp variance. I do three runs in each direction and average the numbers.
My base power numbers were 383RWHP @10 degrees C.
After having Powerchip ECU and BMC Airfilters, 402rwhp @ 11.5 degrees C.
After intake pipe change and heatshielding airbox 419RWHP @15.5 degrees C. (tonights test)
This is an increase of 36hp at the rear wheels. Some could be attributable to the motor being better run in - original figures were at 2000km's latest are 3000km's, but clearly not all.
The bottom line is that these mods do work. I have seen improvements that are equivalent to a Renntech Pulley and ECU kit for 1/5 of the cost and I haven't even done the pulley yet.
The 0-100kmh times for the car have also dropped by over 0.1sec.
I have managed to run the 0-100km in 4.42 sec (equiv to 0-60mph 4.1-4.2) my previous best was 4.56.
For those that believe that I am wasting my time/voiding warranty etc, I am fully aware of the issues at hand. For those like me, that cannot leave well enough alone, I am happy to share my experiences.

That's impressive. The intake pipe change seems like a no brainer for any E55 owner. How much of the increase would you attribute to the heat sheilding, and do you think the BMC filters would be of benefit to a N/A car, such as S500?
Thanks

'22 Alpina B7,'21 G63 Renntech obviously (wife), Wrangler(kids)
Great numbers!!!
I've decided to go the Renntech route,it is still sort of affordable, but main reason is my dealer does the mods and warranty is not an issue.

You should ask Renntech about replacing the intake and whether they can remmap the ECU to your car on the dyno. The downside is you would have to get the car to Renntech, if they will do it, the upside is you'll get more power. You can also have it tuned for 91+octane fuel.

I didn't take any pics of the heatshielding. It's the same as described by me for the W210E55/CLK.
The intake pipe change and pics was discussed here

The airfilters and heat shieldg are worth about 15hp on MB V8's There is a lot of heat soak. Try holding your air intake pipes and air filterbox after a decent drive.
