E63 brakes
I recall reading that it's expensive, but does anyone know offhand what brake service (rotors and pads) costs at the dealer?

I bet it's more than that. Sounds more like what my independent mechanic quoted me sometime back when I asked just to be prepared. Here is an older thread I found that talks about brake costs and ideas. I am just doing a cut and paste and hope it works. Your best bet is to find a good independent mechanic in your area. Good luck and keep us posted!

My parts guys at my dealership, is able to offer me his employee price at $768 per rotor. Just over $1500 for both front rotors. Front pads at $180. I recently had a conversation with Brembo NA, they make the rotor and calipers for all AMGs for Mercedes. They have a exclusive contract with Mercedes, They stated at AMGs aluminum hats will not fit any other friction rings that Brembo currently manufacture. So you can't buy a friction ring from Brembo, and mount it on your AMGs aluminum hat. When I was told that, I was shocked. he explained that the E63 rotors are thicker in design, and the friction swept surface is larger as compared to Brembo's traditional rotors. After explainig all these differences to me, it made sense. AMG rotors are very thick, and will typically last thru three sets of pads, before replacement. I did see that the friction rings from a Audi RS4 will work, but their slotted rotors.
