Expert Tuners Please Enter This Thread

Hello

I have a CL55 among other Mercedes but have never got into tuning them. Only cosmetically enhancing them and mine is very detailed. Now it's my time to hang with the AMG elite and make the car faster and make it drive to match the mean looks. I know you E55 guys are doing the most to the 55K engines and get the best results so thats why I posted here if you don't mind.

My car is basically stock besides having K&N Air Filters and my secondary cats and resonators are deleted and replaced with 3" straight pipe so it sounds really good.

I'm looking to shell out around $5-7K right now. What should I do to get it to feel better go faster and get even better performance?

Pulleys are a must along with a tune, so that a check. But do I go with 172mm or 180mm? Thats always confused me.
Then should I opt for an exhaust or headers? What's the best step by step way to go from the guys that know what they're doing and have experience. Also I know there's some popular companies for these engines; Eurocharged, Evosport, OE, etc... which company will make me happier?

Thanks guys

2005 E55 AMG
Eurocharged 172mm pulley
Eurocharged Tune
Eurocharged Heat Exchanger
Eurocharged Long Tube Headers
Eurocharged Fuel Injectors
New intercooler pump ( whatever brand, as long as it's new )
Eurocharged 82mm Throttle Body

All this is within your budget and can put you in the 500-540whp range. I put a 172mm pulley because quite frankly I'm not convinced that a pulley larger than this will actually make you quicker.

Every car running in the 10's is running bigger than 172mm. In some cases MUCH bigger

Brooke is the only one that will have headers that will fit the CL55. You should check out all the other stuff he is getting for your car.

Part of me wants to take that challenge - fuel rail plus injectors plus airbox plus 82 TB and I think I could get into tens with a 168 (but now I'm bench racing

OP - like the others have said: with your budget:

bigger pulley
headers
HE
Fuel Rail/injectors
Tune
CF python tubes
DR's and wheels

Yeah, but I'm not entirely sure it's because of the pulley but rather all the extra effort put into those cars and some killer DA's. Even some slow E55's have large as hell pulleys, so it goes both ways...lol.

Was just going to mention your car.. I completely agree with not needing a large pulley to be fast.. 168 sounds like the sweet spot for performance yet street drive ability. Just with the addition of a bigger TB you would be very much knocking on the door of tens, if not in the tens.

If I had the money I would go with the Kleemann headers, pulley and tune.. Your looking at basically an 11.2-11.4 car right there.. Thats one quick sled that will drive like stock, look at Motorkas and Skratch77 for instance..

Thanks guys, that a lot of help
So it looks like its between Kleeman and Eurocharged.... No Renntech?

Is one more reliable over the other? Kleeman I know has been around for a while.

BTW, I do have a new intercooler pump from Siliconeintakes:

Who is Brooke? Someone hook me up, I'm gonna spend the money, I just need to pick the best route. And I'd rather buy most things from the same company.

Lot's of good advice in here.
If I was you, I would layout what exactly are your goals. Quick street car, track beast, dyno queen...etc. It sounds like you want a quick street car so do not go crazy with the pulley size. As well, some pulley manufactures have a better history of being reliable.

It would be REALLY cool if you stay on the stock pulley and mod the crap out of everything else to see how far you can go with the stock pulley. Maybe you'll put most of us to shame.

^ This will be good to see since no one has really done it. You own the record, so I would think this is a VERY good test platform.

I suspect in any configuration (minus nitrous) you will lose 100HP, and the AIT's will not make up for that on the track. Granted, it will run cooler, but not enough to make up for the HP loss.

If you think about it, all the mods are doing is getting more air into and out of the engine as effectivley as possible.

With the smaller pulley, you will have lower IATs, but also:

Less intake volume (Don't need the throttle body)
Less exhasut volume (Don't need the headers)
Less Fuel (Don't need the fuel rail / injectors)
IATs are in check (Don't need the extra pumps, trunk boxes, H/E)

Hey, Ill bet this is the exact disussion they had at AMG when they settle on the configuration.

Anyway, I am very interested in the oputcome, and we will see if I am full of it!!

If you put the stock pulley on and get the same results, I'll be the first to do the same.
