Acceptable entry level wheel set... where does it start $$$ ?
I see alot of HRE, Vossen and Morr wheels being talked about here. It seems every set of wheels i see here cost as much as i paid for the vehicle.
My question is...
Where does an 18" wheel set start? One that is of acceptable quality and has proper OEM fit. I would like to have a wheel that has a machined, dished lip and black centers.
Anybody have any suggestions and where to get them?
I don't want this to be a flame war or what not. I'm not an 18 year old kid trying to pimp his Daddy's ride and if i wanted a set of $8k wheels, I don't know if I would get them...but i could afford them without pawning off my watch.
I guess I should add that I live in the Phoenix area and the car never see's bad roads or extremely cold weather.
Anyways... i hope this goes better than I fear... lol

You may want to look into some Forgestars. Depends on what model and size, but they seem to be around $350-400 on wheels so you would be looking at like $1,500 for a whole set. I have the F14s and love them.. Just wish I got 19s instead of 18s

Uh boy... kinda figured the path led here.
Should've asked...
Excuse me, could someone point me to the gentleman with the lowest disposable income? I'm looking for a the best possible price on a set of American Racing Mags.

That fit's into my budget with $500 to spare. Now I can powdercoat them like emoving's Mama's hatchback.

You can have a set of AvantGardes or Forgestars for around 1,500 for a set in 18/19/20.
However these will be low pressure cast or flow-formed - they will be heavier OR less strong/rigid.

I hear ya Doc. I've got two fronts with cracks right now and all 4 are curb rashed past what I can stand.
I'm getting tired of airing up everytime i want to drive it.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Well, I have bent hi-end $$$ wheels multiple times and inexpensive wheels. 7 in just 3 MONTHS! My neighbor joked that my wheels were off the car more than they were on and he was correct. Now those were 20s also. But, I also bent hi-end $$$ wheels in my other cars which were not 20s. Wheels WILL BEND. You just have to ask if you prefer to bend a $1500 wheel vs. a $300 wheel. A $1500 wheel will not be necessarily be stronger than a $1500 wheel the same that expensive anything does not necessarily equate to quality.
I currently run Forgestar wheels and you know, perhaps the best combination of strength and weight I have had. Only one bend a while back from a severe impact, banged it back, had it checked, no problems. I'm not huge fan of mesh wheels from a cleaning standpoint, but they work, their light, and I'm not going to be really butt hurt if they do get either stolen or severely damaged. I would rather my money go elsewhere. Some elitist will swear that HRE, and such are real wheels and anything else is a knockoff that will fall apart if you torque the wheels too much.
Just my .02

Surprising as it may be ronal bears are actually kinda pricey now. The VW guys love em for some reason (I could make jokes about why, but that might get me banned?) and they stopped making em a few years ago so now they're apparently rare?

I really live the MRR GT1 rims. Look on WWW.elementswhhels.com and scroll down the wheel brands to mrr's.........
Thanks everybody for your input.
I went with the MRR GT1's. I wanted to stay with 18's for the added cushion and I bought a set of Nitto 555's 2 months ago that have 1000 miles on them so moving up to a 19" was out of the equation. I also wanted a wheel that had a dished lip.
I got them and a set of keyed nuts for $840 shipped from LSD Motorsports out of California.
I would have gone with the TSW Valencia's but they required a spacer in the rear.
I also considered the Mandrus Millenium but couldn't find my size with the black centers. I also really liked the TSW Snettertons but I don't have the time to have them powdercoated as I have cracked rims right now.
I wish the TSW Forged rims came with a lip but they don't.
