I had the Carmax warranty on my C32 and it was a dream. The dealer was delighted as well and went ape fixing stuff which was all covered. They dealt directly with CNA so I just paid my deductible and was good to go. The problem, of course, is the hassle of repairs and dealing with taking the car in all the time, on top of the misery of having it break. No more MB for me as a result - the power was not worth the headaches. Life is too short to waste energy on such things.

Stupid question, would it even be possible for me to obtain ANY kind of aftermarket warranty with a near 10 year old car with 80K on the ticker?

Probably yes, but for the price you could just buy a spare car for parts

A word to the wise. Carmax had a couple of vehicles I looked at extensively when I replaced my E55. So I looked at their warranty very carefully. Normally, before signing the purchase docs for the car they won't even show you the actual warranty contract unless you specifically request to see it (instead telling you how great it is).

Two things to keep in mind. First, the warranty commences with the vehicle's original in-service date, not the date you purchase the car. So after this year, they won't be writing any warranties on '06 and older E55s. The second thing, their warranty specifically permits them to repair your car using used parts. Don't believe it? Read the contract.

I ended up not buying my replacement vehicle there. The first one had a suspension warning light on. Two week later, the factory dealership determined an $1,8000 was required, so they wouldn't sell me the car ( and I wouldn't buy it without it having been repaired first). The second vehicle had an obvious coolant leak going on. After the test drive, the smell of coolant was obvious. So I had to pass on that one too.

I like the CarMax business model, but as others have noted, the cars are not top quality and I sure wouldn't ever get my car serviced there.

Agreed, I wouldn't get a bicycle repaired there. The good news is you don't have to, their warranty plans(at least when I got mine) allows you to go anywhere you'd like. You do have to pay the difference if the shop you go to has a higher labor rate then they allow. I've also never had them tell the dealership to use used parts, so I'm not sure how common that is unless you need a new engine or transmission.

I heard that NAC is one of the companies that recently stopped covering AMG cars. The list is getting very small and those that do cover want like 5K-8K which is not worth it on a 7-10 yr old car.

List of Extended Warranty Companys?

I spoke with MB corprorate about extending the Extended New Car Warranty on my CL55 with 53k miles dealer service +.

They had no offering.

Does anyone have a list of extended warranty companies that actually cover things that go wrong?

Carmax prices are a bit high, but it almost seems like it's worth it with the kind of warranties they offer. You end up paying a few thousand more than you would elsewhere, but their warranty is also a few thousand cheaper than going through someone like Bruce.

Thanks Alex. I'll keep this bit of information in mind during my next AMG or performance luxury purchase.

I couldn't agree more. I paid 30K plus warranty for mine 2 years ago with 53K miles and it's pretty much loaded.

Do have to buy the warranty at time of car purchase? (carmax)

or do you have some time to decide?

QFT. I was quoted 14000 for a warranty on a car I paid 16000 for.
