Extended Warranty Tip/Trick - Buy Your Next MB/AMG at CarMax
Peeps,
Just a heads up here, (and I don't work for them), buy your next MB/AMG from Carmax and get their extended warranty. (They use CNA and you cannot buy CNA warranties directly from CNA, only dealers offer this.) The warranties are super cheap and cover the car bumper to bumper.
For example I bought my 2004 E55 AMG with 23K miles on it from them a few years ago. I got their warranty for $2K on top of that which covers my car for 5 years and/or up to 100k miles.
So far they have covered well over $13k in repairs for me and my deductable is/was only $50 per visit if I take it to them or $75 if I take it to the dealer.
This is a smoking deal and no other warranty can match the price, the coverage or value and is really the, "Secret Sauce" in keeping your repair bills low. Again no other warranty can touch this!
Lot's of people here can testify to this and I'm only posting this to help any of you considering buying a MB. Get yours from a CarMax, get their extended warranty and you're golden!
Again I have nothing to do with CarMax simply trying to share a secret warranty tip/trick with my fellow MB peeps as you've all helped me quite a bit.
Feel free to PM me with any additonal questions/clarifications.
Happy Holidays!

Happy to help KA8 and you can still take your AMG directly to the MB dealer (in fact CNA prefers this actually) and only have a $75 deductable. That one small payment covers everything/anything they fix/repair (could be multiple things) and it's just a fantastic value.
Again to be super clear I don't work for CNA, CarMax etc just trying to spread the word on this tremendous value, no other company can match it. In 3 years my wife and I have purchased 3 cars from CarMax because of this. (And they're prices are bad either.)
My dream car is an S65 and occassionally these popup on CarMax's site (They key is to search across North America on their website) not just locally.
Get an S65 with this warrantly and you're set!
Thanks!

CNA is a huge company as is Carmax who sells a ton of cars annually (Not just MB), so it's very unlikely they'll discontinue selling/support MBs/AMGs. I think right now on CarMax there are 1,000+ MB's available (across the US), so a few AMGs with high repair bills won't even be a blip on their radar.
Again only just passing this along to be helpful, I am not associated with CarmMax, CNA, etc in any capacity.

In general, I've heard a lot of good things about the carmax extended warranty. I believe the under writer is the same for my 3rd party warranty thru my credit union.

I purchased my CNA service plan directly from the dealer when my CPO warranty ran out. So far, CNA has covered about $6,400 worth of work on my car without any problems. In fact, since I purchased the CNA plan the service department seems to go out of their way to find things that need replacing. LOL
I paid $3,800 for an addditional five years up to 100K miles total and couldn't be happier. My 2006 remains in perfect condition. All totaled, I will have driven this car for almost seven years with complete coverage. Can't beat that anywhere.

First off, Hello! New C55 Owner here!
About me--I sold my 08 Z06 a couple months ago, and really missed the thrust. I do like having 4 doors, and wanted a "4-door" replacement. Even though my E420 is/was vry clean and nice, I decided to trade it in and purchased a late-model 2006 E55 with 49k last week from a non-MB dealer. I have a friend that professionally works, exclusively on MB, who I took along to evaluate and approve my purchase (which he did, after 1.5 hour of evaluation!).
First off, as a long time forum user, I ALWAYS search, both google and specific forums before I ask redundant questions...I have spent a couple days looking into extended warranty plans, and specifically CNA, as they DO OFFER COVERAGE FOR AMG I do not think my inquiries below are redundant, as I am looking for specificity!
Here's the deal. The selling dealer offered me the CNA warranty, which I am inclined to purchase based on the E55. The longest term is the 5yr/60k ($200 ded), AND it is nearly 5k (more than what is mentioned)
I have been searching the crap out of this topic, trying to determine a couple things:
1. What is the markup price on these 3rd party warranties? (I have seen 15-30% in my research, but nothing firm that I can point to)...anyone know for sure...I want to counter their offer, with a knowledgeable one
2. Is the $deductable per visit, or per item. (I have asked the dealer to send me the actual contract to review, so I may get this info from that. I won't receive it until tuesday though, and thought from experience you might know)
Lastly, I really like the information that can be found on this forum. I purchased my E55, fully knowing what I may experience in cost of ownership...It is best to be prepared BEFORE you go shopping!
Oh, and...wow...this car is a blast to drive

I purchased my CNA plan over a year ago so maybe they've wised up a little to AMG's and are charging more now.
I have the $200 deductible and it's per visit, not per item. Last time they fixed three seperate issues, my cost was $200.
Get more miles if they'll sell them to you. I'll run out of miles before I run out of time on my plan.
It's transferable for a small fee and I intend to sell my car with at least six months of warranty remaining to ease the mind of any buyer.
I couldn't/wouldn't own this car without a service plan despite how much I like the car. Actually, I don't think I've ever owned a car I liked this much and have kept this one way longer than usual.
Tried to keep and maintain a CL500 out of warranty for awhile and the maintenance cost was equal to the payment on a new one. So, I got the E.

2005 E55 AMG
I got my warranty at Carmax when I purchased my 05 E55 a few months ago. I got the 72 month/125k mile warranty with $300 deductible. The car had just under 50k miles. The warranty was $2700. If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten it with the $50 deductible which was offered at $3800. But, I am happy I did get the warranty as I knew things could get very expensive on this car.

I think I will try to price-match your deal, and see what they say
Maybe its the larger deductable that doped the pricing? But based on what I was offered, your deal is litterly twice as good, for less money! I suppose you could have paid more for the car? PM me what you paid if you don't mind. Does/will Carfax sell the warranty to anyone, without a carpurchase, do you know?
Sorry for the additional questions, but I want to figure this thing out! I promise to share with other interested parties when I do...thanks!

Thanks for the info
alextaylor29,
Thanks for the Carmax warranty info. I just purchased a GL450 from them and did buy the extended warranty. I got the 6year/100k with $300 deductible for $1649. I did so because it seemed reasonable and I have 30 days to "return" the policy. I am still not sure if I am keeping it, going with Mercedes's version, buying another 3rd party version, or none at all. Your positive experience with them gives me some perspective on the actual use of the warranty.
Anyone here want to share their experiences with the Mercedes warranty and the costs that you paid?

Well after a lot of thought and after thoroughly looking at the very fine print of several differnt 3rd party warranties, I decided to bankroll 4k for my "personal" warranty program I was SO GUNHO too...I was ready to pull the trigger on one but decided to do a complete tune, filters, belts, gaskets, and fluid change instead...I know where I am now...so knock on wood , I won't need one, and with my "reserve" account, I figure I will be fine...
I did want to thank you guys for your info, which helped me to research and reach my decision point. I just hope my intuiton is right again
And a bit off-topic...this decision helped me to justify my purchase of MaxH SL65 wheels...can't wait to fit them on MY Black Beast

Peeps,
I'm bumping this as I've got a few more questions on warranties. I'm not the expert here, just sharing my experience. I paid $2K for my CarMax warranty (CNA) good to 100K miles and it's already covered $15K in repairs.
Just trying to help the members here.
Thanks.

Heck, I've even replaced a battery under carmax warranty at work. They seem to be the best "aftermarket" warranty from my experience
