Electronic shift kit
Ok, so we all know that the srt-8 vehicles also use our nag1 722.6 transmission as in our E55's. Well, the other day I'm on their forums looking around and I find some interesting stuff. Those mopar guys like to mod, and cheaply too.
There has been an "electronic shift kit" devolped, check out zautotech.com
Now, we are talking about chirping 3rd gear. This unit is fully programmable by YOUR laptop to your liking. There has been good feedback from users of these units.
I emailed the owner of zautotech, asking basic questions like, can I convert this to use on my E55. Basically, he told me for sure, if he had a E55 to look at locally.
I asked about the outputs etc, so I could just adapt it\ myself, but he didnt go into detail about that. I would be all over this If I was local to him! Bur i'm not. I think this would make a great mod for our community--
any takers? If not, I may just order one eventually and see what happens.....

Plus even though the transmission might be the same as in the housing and the internal parts I'm pretty sure the software is very different. You can't just slap one on a Mercedes without the TCU so how do you think the car will like foreign programming. EC does theirs on your existing TCU so no identity problems there for the car.

Why, the same reason all those other guys want it. Remember, you dont have to chirp 3rd, you can adjust it how you want. And, It is waaaay cheaper than TCU tune. You dont remove the tcu, it modify's the signals. Trust me, it can be done.

Wouldn't 3rd gear chirp in our cars be about 80-90mph??
Can't imagine the WHACK on the tranny to get tires to chirp at 90mph.
Ouch
All for messing around with the tranny on a laptop though so see what you can find out.

And SRT 8 TCU plugs right into ours and drives mostly fine. Just can;t trigger the manuall shifting. This would work fine. I emailed him when it first came out, but he never got back to me. All we need to do is connect to the can+/- bus lines, power , fround and RPM I think. IT would definately work.

we've been hearing about things like this for a while and i too had contacted srt8 vendors years ago in the same vein attempts. rumors continue to surface that these products will work but as of yet, we still don't have a single fully successful crossover product from that platform.
i'll continue to hope but seeing is believing...

Small update, I have now had multiple contacts with not the company I originally spoke of but different one. It sounds very promising. I am supplying the technical data Monday when I return to work.

Right on brother. I haven't had alot of time over the last months, but I have a few parts from the SRT world waiting to test on my car ( Trans VB, 3.06 gear, Driveshaft coupler). There is no reason this won;t work, just need to provide the correct wiring schematic. 5 wire max, and your done.

Alright guys I'm super excited to finally be to the point I am at with this. After starting this thread, its been a daily project to get here. The prototype unit is IN MY HANDS! Installation will happen ASAP, however with me being gone to Daytona this weekend may put a small damper on it. So, testing and fine tuning will persue. This is the real deal.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I tried one of these Electronic Shift Kits (aka Silver Box) back in 2010 and it just put the car into limp mode.
This is the one I tested: http://www.lxforums.com/board/f345/e...er-box-176001/
Hopefully something will be different with the kit be tested but I would not hold my breath.

Please dont hold your breath! This is not taking a Lx car unit and just sticking it in the E55.

Ok heres the update. The complete kit is now installed in my car. Now, that does not mean it is up and running "operationally". Right now, we are in the beta testing stage, basically reading out the all the different CAN C and CAN B messages from the car, identifiying what they are and mean. Once this is done, than the program will be modified so it can "understand" the incoming messages, and send out the correct messages. Basically, still a lot of work to do. But, have made major progress since the get go.
