DIY solution to fixing star or emblem on engine cover!
I have read that many people including myself have had issues with their engine emblems falling off or breaking and after a lot of messing around and testing have found a solution!
First, the width of the star is 75mm or 3" which you cannot buy anywhere including eBay, so the solution is to buy center wheel caps. The center caps come with the correct sized star, but it has to be removed.
I just used a flat tip screw driver and rubber mallet to break the tabs off from the inside and then used a razor blade to separate and lift the emblem from the base. Next, I resprayed the mesh with brilliant metallic paint then applied it to the emblem using a glue gun; I put a dab in the center of the back of the emblem then pressed together.
*Update* I ended up using the loctite spray adhesive to bond the mesh to the emblem, just make sure to cover the parts using black electrical tape that you do not want the adhesive to touch because it can become messy.
Lastly, to reapply the emblem to the engine cover you will need some type of adhesive liquid, spray, or automotive tape. I believe the liquid is to messy so I chose to stay away and think the best solution is the spray. After applying adhesive spray to the back of the emblem quickly position it correctly on the engine cover and hold for maybe five minutes to ensure proper bond! That is it

Anybody else actually still have one of these on their car? I've been totally absent from the board for like to years while working on another car...and now it's done...so I'm back giving the E55 some attention...
And this engine cover looks horrible now. The star is gone... on the driver's side it's almost all white...
I'm actually not ticked at all because I think we got a steal on them...but...they definitely don't last. I think mine has been on about 10k miles and it's totally burned out.
