E55 Engine mounts needed or is it fine?
Hi All,
Last year I bought a W211 E55 wagon as a project car and am doing things when budget allows :p I read that the engine mounts fail a lot on these and am wondering if I should be replacing mine so wanted to check your opinion on it.
I have created a video of the engine while running idle in P and then pressing the gas pedal to about the middle (I would say?). Reading a bit about the movement I now have the feeling it's not that bad? I also see no leakage when looking at them. They might have been replaced at some point but I just have no documentation of any work done on it before 2014 (missing 10 years almost!) unfortunately.

To be honest, it also looks fine to me. I just bought a CLS55 not too long ago and will be replacing the engine mounts as preventative maintenance. They are not that expensive, so might as well change them! It helps get the power down and provides less strain on the exhaust etc.

Nice to see someone from The Netherlands with a M113K as well !

OEM mounts do wear out a lot and mostly loose the oil in them. Most replace with Black series mounts that are a huge improvement over the oil filled style.

I just installed Black series mounts and I was shocked how much I had to jack up the engine to get the new ones in. The old mounts had collapsed quite a bit. I would say yours should be changed. My car has 103k miles on it. I also replaced the trans mount with the black series mount. My trans mount was also collapsed. It was still intact but in bad shape. The black series appears to be much better. My engine did not have much movement either...
