Pano roof rattles/creeks
I am still struggling to get to the point of acceptance. IMO, MB should not have offered pano as an option if their engineers knew from the onset that it would have these types of noise issues. Perhaps full disclosure to buyers stating something along the lines of: You are buying an expensive car with a glass roof that will soon take you back in time and make your car sound like a 1930's chariot. You are making a choice to either live with it or be prepared for expensive repairs that are not guaranteed to make the cabin of your car quiet. You select this option at your own risk. Now, this would have been helpful.
A number of these cars here are not what I consider old and these pano noises for some started within the first year or two of ownership. I have a car that has been mechanically sound yet all other visits to the dealership when it was under warranty, and outside of scheduled service, had to do with creaks and pops coming from the pano roof. This is a MB product, in case anyone is wondering.
It has reached the point where many of us are trying everything possible to have some peace and quiet in the car if we do not want the radio on or the roof open as a work around. I realize the level of severity differs for all and we have a myriad of choices. It still does not make MB's approach and handling of these issues acceptable. As some of you many know, dealerships are not shy to quote repair costs in excess of $5k to replace railings and other components of the roof.
Life goes on and it will be another day listening to creaks and pops coming from MB's roof. I am sure there will come a time when it will all be music to my ears and I will just tap along.
My 03 with 50K miles is quiet from the pano roof so far, but I'm sure sooner or later I will hit a bump and go WTF? I only have a funny noise from the trans tunnel (something bumping around down there over bumps in the road and sometimes seemingly randomly) that I'm hoping will only be a trans mount or maybe motor mounts and the trans mount.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
seems like loose bolts hold it all together. I have tried twice to have fletcher jones diagnose it but they want$1000 to just take down the headliner? Weak!
I love my Pan roof but he clunking is not good and seems to be a common problem. Lets go MBUSA! make our cabins quite and proper for a $95,000 dollar car.
Thankfully no noises yet, but it seems like the best preventative is to keep it lubed up, and cycle it every couple of weeks regardless of what time of year it is...
Thanks for posting the lubrication diagram, I will be sure to use it as I doubt the dealer ever messed with it much.
My creaking was coming from the right rear edge of the sunroof and I could reproduce it by lightly pushing up and down on the RR part of the glass from inside the cabin. After trying to lubricate the hidden area in the corner with a credit card and paper towel soaked in spray without success, I just held a towel under the can and quickly sprayed along the side and rear corner of the glass on both sides to lubricate the hidden areas.
Drove the car for several hours last night on our broken CA highways and the pano roof is now completely silent. I'm sooooooooooooo glad to have this resolved, I love driving my car again :-)
Note: The silicon spray I used is 3-In-One Professional silicon spray lubricant: http://www.3inone.com/professional/. The overspray wipes right off and leaves no residue, but I went over the pano roof with quick detailer afterward for good measure.

Pano squeaks IMHO are the result of two factors: improper / ignored maintenance and super-slammed cars running in Sport2 mode.
The first one is obvious. I believe a lot of the high mileage cars here don't get the maintenance they deserve..... Oil changes maybe, but many of the other items that are called out (pano lubrication, fuel sender replacements) are ignored.
Secondly, I know a lot of guys here like to run their cars slammed and with the stiffest AirMatic settings (Sport2).... That lack of suspension compliance puts a lot more torsion into the chassis and is bound to increase the creaking of the pano roof. I never heard a peep out of my pano roof until I lowered my car.... Once I did, I started to hear the strain of climbing steep driveways or riding on rough roads.... If the suspension doesn't have enough travel, the body is going to twist....those forces have to go somewhere.
Since putting my car back to stock ride height, I am back to a peaceful, quiet pano roof.
