996tt or Boss 302
Not usual company in cross shopping but I've been thinking about one of these for my weekend/track car.
Ever since I started driving my E55 daily, the NA 996 is just not enough poke. It's not slow by any stretch and it's light weight is fun but I'm thinking other 2 door options.

depends if you want a brand new car, which is still a ford, or an older car which is a porsche. if it was for a daily, i would say 996tt hands down... for a track car, it's a toss up. Boss 302's are pretty good from the factory and the aftermarket for them is HUGE and parts are cheap. modding it into a good track car wont cost you much. Modding the 996tt on the other hand will set you back a significant amount of money, but you will end up with a faster car, in a straight line anyway

if you are lookin a track car, go with the Boss 302 they tested it at Laguna Seca and straight from the factory it was 2 seconds faster than the M3 (not sure if it was the CSL M3)

You can look at hp ratings all you want, but you also need to be happy with the interior of the car. The new Mustangs have nice interiors, but they also have a lot of plastic. The 996tt if upgraded will have leather all over the place and very little plastic. For myself, I can't stand plastic in the interior of a car.

I know I'm going to step on a lot of toes here but seriously you really want to drive a ford?
And that's coming from a guy who has dropped all luxury for a Nissan...
Matter of fact, don't read this post.

Both cars are well thought out. The real question is how much money do you have to blow on a car? What I mean is if your going to mod the two cars out your talking large amounts of money. The 996TT tune is something like $2,000, I would think a coil over kit is about $5,000. The Boss is a lower cost car in all areas but its cheep to fix and mod.

The problem with the 996 is that HORRIBLE funky interior which they fixed on the 997. The exterior on the turbo isn't bad, some guy even did a 997 conversion but that interior... Now like others said, it's a Porsche Vs Ford I say go for the 911
By the way can you believe this is a 996....INCREDIBLE BUILD

The 997 eats the 996 in looks. Too bad they didn't do the interior too which is the worst part of the 996

I guess I don't get this comment. I find my 996TT to have a pretty nice interior. Not many gadgets (buttons on the steering wheel, Homelink, etc), but it really isn't necessary.
Just curious about specifics.
No actual opinion on the question. Very different and you need to buy what you enjoy, not what we do. The number one reason I have the 996TT is because it is good in snow

The 996 is a GREAT car but the interior was a huge disappointment IMO.

See now for the W211 Vs W212 ignoring the fact you know which one is newer does the W211 interior really look dated next to the successor? It sure doesn't to me. Hell some say it's better and has a nicer feel. I know this isn't about the W211 but I'm showing you a timeless interior, something the 996 doesn't have. It makes up for it with performance and a pretty sexy outside though.

Bos 302 Leguna Seca is hands down the winner. Add a couple tweaks, and it will blow your mind away. I also really think the 2000 Cobra R is still a hell of a track car for the money.

On a serious note - i think the two car are verys different and it really comes down to what you want. Mustang interior is horrendous and always has been. The 996tt interior is a bit outdated given its 6-10 years old, quality and build wise it is still light years ahead of the newer Ford. I feel like Boss 302 would be easier to drive faster around the track unless you are experienced with Porsches since they take a different approach. If you want a nice track car in that price range - Z06, with nice brake pads and good tires will be unstoppable.

Pretty cool that this is even being taken seriously.
10 years ago this would have caused loads of laughter.
Now it's a legit question.
Detroit!
Now if we could just work on the city a bit.
