As I mentioned, my car is only 5yrs old. So, the rotors just came off with no effort. I would take the advice of the post above, use a big hammer.

Edit: Could be the aluminum hats prevented the pressure welding seen on the 55s.

The brakes are working great. The machined faces resulted in significantly better initial bite, but as everything has bedded in, I would say they are only slightly higher bite than stock. Brake pad compound would make a bigger difference, but I am OEM pads for now.

I have yet to try these on the track, but will report back when I do.

Right now the best I can say is that I am extremely happy with my purchase from RacingBrake.

Nope, not yet. The pads have quite a bit of life.
I also need to buy the 1/2inch drive torx for the caliper. Guess I could try the 3/8 drive one I have, but wisdom is the torque is high.

Great post Jon. Mine is ready for the fronts now and I was wondering how those RB rotors are working out? Any problems since your last post in July? My shopping cart is ready, just have to enter CC info.

The rotors are just fine. At 102k miles now.

Have not made it back to the track yet, mainly due to heavy works schedule.

Thanks for the update. I found the RB Rotors @ Amazon for $1,080.23 shipped and saved $343.

Bringing this back...

I'm about to pull the trigger on fronts for my '07...I can get OEM for about $40 more than the RB set...

In your opinion, which one should I go with?
I'm partial to OEM brake parts, but the RB looks great and I like the non-cross drilled design.

In reality are either TRULY better than the other?

TIA!!

OEM, there is only one part number, so on one side of the car the vanes are going in the wrong direction.

As above, slightly lighter, but yes a harder grey iron that can stand up to an aggressive pad if desired (but I would question someone who really thought they needed it). No cross drill means no stress cracks if you really over do it.

They will be cheaper when you go to replace because you CAN re-use the hats. Lastly, a real person to talk to.

Update.

28k on these rotors. Street use only (i know, this sucks, but work and all has limited me) and stock pads, 0.010 inches of wear. This leaves 0.09 left. Definitely a harder material.

Was debating if i needed to upgrade my rotors prior to doing the HPDE event i had this past weekend. Stuck with what i had. I did a HPDE1 event over the weekend at Summit Point WV. Stock rotors w 70k miles , new oem pads on rear and new akebono on front and new brake flush w/OEM 4+. The car def handled well in the braking area and no fade at all after one event. Rained later before my next session and decided to skip that, since first time on the track. Had 60% left tread on my Conti DWS and did push them to their limits a few times in turns and heard them squeal. A couple times did get the rear end loose coming out of a turn.

Def fun and will be doing more HPDE events this summer. Need to get more seat time and better at the line through turns. Before i knew it the 25 mins was over.

Hi Jon,
Thank you indeed for such an in-depth and long term review on RB brake that can replace OE rotors and save lots of $$$ with performance improvement.

We have a potential customer who has an E63 with twin turbo, do you know if all E63 (2012) have the same rotor size, or if twin turbo is different.

I will direct him to this thread for more information.

Got you.

Not sure if they are the same size in diameter/thickness/offset.

The Bi-turbo is an one piece rotor or so called center-cast rotor, while the non Bi-turbo is a two piece construction (disc is replaceable). If they have same caliper I would assume the rotors are the same.

E63 BI-turbo comes with "360x36" as a basic,, but there are "2" AMG performance brake packages,

1) P30pkg with "380x36" with a bigger Red calipers size, code: "U70",

2) P31pkg with "390x36" with a bigger Red or Gold calipers size, same as the package of the SLS BS, code: "B07",,

*should to confirm what kind of brakes that customer got....

ZAYED,,
RacingBrake offers a complete two piece rotor upgrade for MB's large front rotors:

For 390x36mm rotors we have 4 sizes; for 360x36 we have 2 sizes:

E63 Front Rotor Replacement DIY - RacingBrake-52eca6a4-d8b7-43aa-82cb-6a43082b1b7c_zps7f5798c4.jpg

10/19/13:

Rotor dimension illustration drawing added to help you identify the correct P/N for your MB.

1. Remove your rotor

2. Lay the rotor hat on floor and get the height, if your tape is in inch, multiply the number by 25.4 for mm.

3. Measure the diameter

4. Compare the number to the above chart and find the right rotor

As a manufacturer, we can only keep dimensions accurate, but must admit that our application list (model & year) may not be as accurate or up-to-date for newer models that may use the same size of rotors.

The reason for different offsets for the same size of rotor was due to different calipers used for different models.

So the best is for you to click the following link and find out your model & year (The selection is easy - no drop down), and check if the list/size agree to your MB.

http://www.racingbrake.com/category-s/7136.htm

Let us know if your car is not listed and we will find out for you, and if your rotor is not in our offer list let us know, and we will verify it and make it available.

RacingBrake is the most trusted source for your Mercedes when it comes to brake replacement or upgrade.

Thank you.

E63 biturbo
So to find out which is suitable for my E63 biturbo, I have to measure the offset or HT, whatever that is?

Yes, we believe that's the best way to identify the correct rotor you need than by VIN#, OEM# or model/year etc. which most dealers, repair shop, or parts store deal with while we have found even dealers get them mix up all the time.

We have added an illustration of rotor dimension and how to measure in the above reply.

Feel free to PM or call us @714-871-6392 if you need more assistance.

Time to buy replacement disks. They are done. Similar wear to OEMs using OEM pads. Yep... >180k miles now.

I never made it back to the track to run my car, but I,have been doing flagging and communications as a member of the San Francisco Region SCCA. Including most pro events at Laguna.

I will post the disk replacement on a new thread.
