Shipping a car...

Hi folks,

I know several people here have bought cars and shipped them back home cross-country, so I figured I'd post my question here.

My friend is moving from the bay area in Cali to Chicago, and is looking for a reputable shipping company for her car. Does anyone have any suggestions or things to look out for? I'm trying to avoid a possibly shady situation.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I've used that site to find a transport company twice without issues. Cost is mostly going to be based on gas prices. Also, the way it works is the individual drivers get brokered by transport companies so what you ultimately pay the driver is less because the broker is making money too. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find a driver without going through one of the brokers.

I used uship.com to get free quotes. You'll get quotes from brokers, but they have reviews, too. Prices vary up to 50% based on the company... I was getting quotes: from Maryland to Texas, anywhere from $900 to $1300. I ended up using a shipper provided by the dealer.

Hands down one of the best is JP Logistics, used by MBUSA and just about all of my clients. We are fellow sponsors on a handful of forums, they are the best by far. http://www.jplogistics.net/

Check out the folks at Angels Moving Autos on the transport review site. I have used them a couple of times and they are wonderful. Good luck!

A PCA member shipped his 2010 GT3 from Florida to Cali a couple years ago via Intercity Lines. Then from CA to HNL. he was very happy with the shipping company. He also sent a Lotus Exige and a Subaru.

I've used Intercity with great success. I actually contacted them last week about moving my 996TT from Iowa to Florida and appreciated their response. They basically said they didn't have enough volume on that route and they wouldn't be a good choice as it would take too long. I thought that was very classy.

In the end, I've decided to drive both cars to Florida. Should be fun trips. Driving the E55 and then a few weeks later the 996TT. Flights back are under $200, so the total cost is about 1/4 of shipping.

Dlyons-
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the suggestions mentioned on your post since most everyone has actual experience they can tell you about. Just to throw my name in the ring, I have used King Transport out of Arizona. They are brokers, ask for Dan. He will definitely set you up.
They trailered out my NSX from Atlanta to Phoenix so Science of Speed could perform their wonders on my car and the wife just had a car transported from out West back to Atlanta with no problems. Great service.
Good Luck on getting your ride moved.

I used uship.com when I bought my Harley and had it shipped from North Carolina to Chicago. Love that there's tons of reviews for the people that have been doing it for a while.

My car was shipped from the Chicago area to San Francisco when I purchased it. Let me see if I can find the name of the company again. They were very fast (4 days) and the drivers were an older couple (husband drove and wife handled the calls and paperwork), who were very nice and careful.

I will tell you this.

Only use Plycon if you want some ****ing meth addict that can't follow directions to pick your luxury car up.

Amateur hour specials all day long with that company.

Save yourself the headache and use JP logistics.
