06 E55, 03FORD P/S,01 E320-4M,99 ML320,O4 E55,05 RUBICON UNLIMITED,
I would suspect either one of the left side header tubes is contacting the steering shaft as stated or the ex. pipe is hitting the trans cross member. I have had to correct both those problems with FF headers after replacing engine mounts on a few E55's. I heated the down pipe that was contacting the shaft then made a small radius relief in it to clear. On the trans cross member I took a plasma cutter and cleareanced the left side, you can check that easy enough by power braking and seeing if the noise occurs. On a side note, when I had the steering shaft problem, when I would get on the gas hard the steering wheel would bind when trying to turn.
