crack in clearcoat of interior trim

I have a crack in the clearcoat of the wood ashtray door that is in the center console area.

Does anyone know how easily this can be fixed and possibly where to go to have the work done? I'm in the SoCal area so a local place would be preferred.

Thanks!

I would grab an ash tray cover from a junkyard.

I got a friend one for Christmas for $15 lol.

Have the same, from top to bottom. I'm probably just going to carbon fiber dip the pieces anyhow. Already did the shifter bezel and top of the shifter.

If you want it refinished, check out Madera Concepts.

They are doing some very high quality reproductions of old school (W126) AMG wood packages, and they are spot on.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check out Madera Concepts.

I wouldn't mind getting a used ashtray door, except the one I have has the AMG logo on it.

Therefore, it's not an easy item to replace.

The problem with finding a replacement is that the color and grain seem to vary from car to car. If you are lucky, you will find a suitable replacement.
Mine has the same crack btw.

I had one too buddy.

A $150 brand new piece is that route I took.

Unfortunate, but necessary as I didn't want to search til the end of days for a nice piece.

I got it from Steve @ mbenzl. Class act vendor to do biz with.

(factory AMG/Benz parts)

Here's a pic of the ashtray cover that Steve took before he sent the item to me.

I haven't taken a pic of the crack myself yet.

T,

Is this a brand new piece you received from Steve?

I know you have done some good biz with him in the past. Your OE mods are incredible.

I would call Chapparone auto body. Mark is currently fixing/refinishing a wing for my GT-R that had a huge crack in the clear. He is fully confident that his guys can fix it.

Unless Steve will take it back for a replacement of course.

Yes, this is a brand new piece from Steve.

Is Chapparone Auto Body the one located in San Diego? I'm also thinking about maybe getting something more personal written on the ashtray door and having them clearcoat over it. Do you think they can do that?

Sorry to hear that man. Yep, same one in San Diego. I shipped my carbon wing there to get it refinished in matte clear.

It would definitely be worth a PM or call to see what his shop is capable of.

All the other work Mark has shown me is outstanding and now that he currently owns my former E55 I trust him to do all my paint/finishing work from here on out for the GT-R.
