Keyless go key replacement
One of my keys is sitting at the bottom of a lake in Mexico.
For those that have replaced their keys, does it have to be done at the dealer and what did you pay?

ask for an extra key <i think you can get up to 5 >not a replacement key<if you ask for a replacement key they have to cancel the old one and cost way more money.don't be fooled there is no programing once you get it just turn ignition with the key wait like 3 min and all ok.than you can use the keyless function.

I just had a devective #2 key replaced at the dealership. Don't know the cost since the dealer covered it. When I bought the car used we found that the second key didn't function so they got a new one for me for free.
Ertech - there is a difference between standard key and keyless go. Keyless go has to be programmed. My good friend is also my MB tech at the dealer. It took some time to program the keyless go.
OP - you will need to identify whether the key you have is the #1 or #2 key. The replacement key will need to match the key that you lost. If you have a #1 key and get a replacement #1 key, it will overwrite the #1 key that you have. Your service advisor can help you with that.

You don't have to match the key you lost no one will go get the key in Mexico and steal your car . If you replace the lost key you will need a program

+1.. Only could get it from the dealers.. Need all the documentation prior ordering. Lots people bought their from online and have taken to dealerships to program. It just a waste of time and money because the dealerships will NOT reprogram it since it is code to the vehicle per VIN's. There are 8 tracks and 3 keys per track. You can get up to total of 24 keys, don't know if you ever need all 24 keys.

you can only get it in person at the dealer. If you ask for an aditional key it will come pre-programed , if you ask for a replacement key it will cost more <they do this to cancel the lost key so no one can steal you car they cancel the lost key. in your case the lost key can not be used to steal your car since it is at the bottom of a lake in Mexico.
aditional key is cheaper and comes preprogramed
and yes I know it is for keyless go

ONLY if your vehicle being service at that dealership before and they have all of your records on file. Otherwise, dealership will NOT order key for you. TRP form need to fill out and sign in person..
