E55 looks boring

I love the car, but gee couldn't Benz have done something to make the E55 look just a little more exciting?

An M5 or RS6 has real road presence - why can't MB do the same for the E55. All that money, and no-one even notices you!

I think the styling of the E55 is its biggest weakness - let's face it, it doesn't have many others. What do others think?

As a BMW M5 owner I have noticed that people only realise what kind of car I have when they see quad exhaust tips in the back...

Same thing with E55, I've seen a couple around town and from the front it's nearly impossible to tell. Once I see the back, though, it's all clear

Personally, I like understatement in our cars. If I wanted to attract attention of everyone around me, I'd buy a yellow Porsche :p

Umm, I have got pretty good positives compliments for the car, the RS6 looks pretty boring and traditional looking nothing major, and the M5 is nice but its pretty much a 540i in steroids..

Personally... I don't want my car to be all flashy. I like sleepers which makes the E55 a perfect choice.

Both the RS6 and M5 look like the normal series car and NOTHING special at all just like the E55. The car is very understated, if you want it to be flashy you should have bought something else.

Or get the flashiest paint job around with the biggest wheels that can fit as well.

personally, this is one of the main appealling aspect of the E55. very discreet. If you want to draw attention to yourself get the next generation M5.:o I thinks its going to be a hit with the fast and foolish crowd.

If you have a need to be noticed, buy a guards red or fly yellow Porsche or Lambo.
The majority of MB owners who gravitate toward the E55 like the combination of luxury and performance but aren't looking for flashy styling.

That said, IMO you simply cannot find a duller looking $80,000 car than the RS6. Has zero 'road presence' IMO.
The design engineers in the luxo sedan market in general do not seem to turn out flashy sheetmetal. I suspect that studies have shown that people who value 'flash' highly will prefer to buy true sports cars, not sedans.

I agree, I'd like to see a little more aggressive styling differences on the AMGs. The C43 & CLK430 introduced the current look AMG styling skirts/panels, and looked fresh back in '99. But now the look is kind of run of the mill.

I think the current M3 does it the best. Instantly more muscular than a normal 3, but stays way clear of the Mitsu EVO boy racer gaudiness. BMW 540s with the M-Sport package look near identical to the M5. And forget the Audi, I strain my eyes to make sure one is an S4 or RS6.

But I think the biggest problem with the new E55 is just the w211 body style itself. Don't get me wrong, I like the body style. But at first glance on the road, I have a hard time telling an S or C from an E, let alone the AMG versions. The w211 body is quite elegant, but lacks the more broad shouldered road presence of the old w210.

One of the reasons I dumped my Z06 for my C32 was the elegance and subtlety of the Benz versus the in your face character of the vette. I bought the vette for the performance and it delivered big time, but I didn't care for the attention it drew... I think the e55 is a stunning car and I can't wait to make my next move into one

Boring.....are you mixing perscription medications

If your idea of boring is to watch my E55 AMG tail-lights quickly dissapear in front of you then yes....it is boring. However, watching you receed in my rear view mirror.......now that I find exciting.

Motormouth, I only said I thought the styling was boring, not the performance.

JasonC32amg, I grant you the C32 is more subtle that a Corvette!

But I still think MB could spice it up a little more with very slightly flared guards and larger wheels, without losing the elegance which I agree is an appealing part of the car's look. Just a thought, and I still love the car (or I wouldn't be talking about it!)

If you want to spice up the e55, just lower it and add bigger wheels and tyres! I will post some pics of my E55 with newly added Brabus 19's tomorrow.
