So I'm new to summer only, performance tires. I went with the PS2 and I have to say they didn't last as long as I had hoped, only 25,000 total miles (minus the winter miles for actual distance) and the rears are already gone. I only went to the drag strip once, and did like 7 passes with pretty pathetic burnouts for most. I'll get them again to match my fronts, but when I replace all 4, I'll be doing some serious research as to another brand. Just my 2 cents.

of the posts I've read - if you have stock 18" rims
245/40-18 in the front
and
275/35-18 in the rear - the OEM size is 265, but many say that even the 275 has a hard time keeping up... so go big(ger) in back![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
check the Wheel Thread - most is just wheels, but some post tire sizes and type too

You guys are complaining about 25K miles out of the rear tires? My Toyo T1R's have about 7K miles and they are almost bald in the rear...and I've never done a burn out. Performance tires wear fast.

Haha I never intend to get 25k out of my tires. That's like 2 years or more of driving. I'm completely ok with replacing them with yearly or sooner. But I like keeping lots of tread for this houston rain and like trying new tires.

I guess I had unrealistic expectations for tire life. Again, this is my first performance car, so who knows. I did shop around, read threads and decided on the PS2 because they supposedly were quieter and wore better than the Conti's or P Zero.

I will say, and this is nothing new to AMG owners, that those rear tires are the most fun I've ever had. I really do love this car. It's soft enough to drive my grandma around in, and it blows away most cars I see day to day. Nothing like toasting a 6.2 Camaro, a Challenger or Mustang in a 4 door sedan. Switching from Comfort to Manual brings a smile to my face every time!

Gotta agree with the others, the E55 is almost a waste on a tire like your talking about turdy. Get something stickier.

got out of a $1,300 street racing ticket when I was 18 which would have parked my car and put me 6-feet under...

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
First place: The unusual suspects.
JUNE 2009 BY DAVE VANDERWERP PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICH CHENET
It took only a matter of seconds on the dry autocross to realize the Dunlop Star Specs were strong tires. Both the Dunlops and the Kumhos felt head and shoulders above the other tires, including the benchmark Michelin PS2s. We were impressed with how the Star Specs have huge grip that is available immediately, even before they warm up, which lends credence to Dunlop marketing them as autocross tires.
Although 0.3 second behind the Kumhos on the dry autocross, the Star Specs create a reassuring connection between the tires and the steering wheel. Geswein summed up their predictable and planted feel by saying they were “rewarding to drive hard,” and the Star Specs also excelled while transitioning from braking to cornering to accelerating, which left us with satisfyingly smooth laps.
After the staggering dry performance, we were shocked that the Star Specs didn’t sacrifice much in the wet, knuckling down to produce the best lap time—just a 10th off the PS2s’—despite being a touch peaky.
The only flaws we could find with the Dunlops were slight: above-average noise and a slight ride penalty, things we are regularly willing to sacrifice for performance when it comes to cars. The star graphic on the sidewall evidently designates more than just its name.

I agree. Chawkins convinced me to get the KDWII's and he was spot on. Outstanding grip, wet and dry. I don't notice any noise either like some of the online reviews say. I like them much better than the Pilot Sports and the Pilot Sport A/S's.

Iv gone threw so many tires and come to the conclusion that you need drag radials to even try to put a modded e55 power down.
invos were good but lost there ballance every week
conti sport 2s suck, worst tire on the plannit
bfg drag radials were ok but not as good as the thompson
pilot super sports are the best tires you can buy for all around grip and comfort(on the car now)and Im looking at some slicks to throw on next summer.
I would buy the pilot super sports again tho,I think they are better than the bfg drag radials in grip once you get them warm.
ohh and when I look for new tires I always get AA traction and try to find anything under 200 for tread wear.

I agree with Skratch, I ran Michelin PSSs all summer; great tire. The rears are gone after about 8K miles, but since I have the Michelin Promise Plan that came with them, my next set will be prorated.
Regardless, any street tire isn't going to be able to handle the power the E55 puts down.

Hankook V12 285/30/19 rears for the street. Mickey T's Drag radials for the track/fun runs. traction will ALWAYS be an issue on street tires, but I must say bang for buck it's hard to beat the V12's.

one has to learn... right?
I had just purchased these a few months ago for my 'other car' and they were pretty darned good, and every shop I've talked to recommends them (even when they're cheaper than other brands) because the feedback has been really good on them. check the ratings, they have good wear and overall usability year-round...
it's not like I'm driving in snow, but added traction in the rain always helps...
I grew up driving Mustangs in 3 feet of snow, with studded winter tires - so I don't think it's obscene, just smart for how I drive...

Toady. Honest question. What car did you have the KDWs on? I've had them on different cars and have noticed different results with them with respect to which car/size tire they were..
