This is a pretty good thread so I decide to post in it. The place needs some spunk and Emoving is providing it. Can't always agree with his style but does add to enjoyment. Call this a bump fellas.

Sorry OP you really had to get beat up upon for such a simple question. I believe Porsche is consistently ranked one of if not the best cars in terms of reliability. I never owned a Boxster, but my 911s have all been relatively cheap to own (the exception being the race cars). From what I read the e55 has a great / strong motor and transmission, but the suspension can give problems down the road. That said, there are cheap fixes for the suspension, so all in all, I don't think it will be that bad. Just find a car that has been well maintained and you should be fine.

Cheesecake Factory = Epic Win
As far as Boxsters go I have always liked them until I did I some research on them. Evidentally the initial engines were so bad that the Porsche techs used to call a CEL a 'Change Engine Light'. The problem was so well documented and Porsche had such problems with them that they would ship dealerships engines so complete they even had oil in them, just so the dealership could swap out the bad ones efficiently. The newer ones are just great according to everything I have read and followed.
That all being said I drive my E55 daily during the summer (won't let it see salt, snow, etc.) and it has been terrific. This includes almost weekly runs to the local strip on Friday nights for Test & Tune night , no failures of any kind.
Like anything else, keep up maintenance on it and it will serve you well, there are tons of guys on here and other forums with 160,000+ miles and still going strong.
Regards
