I'd be up for it. I'd just watch since I sold my AMG, but it would be fun to go. Not far from me either. I live near Gurnee.

I just needed something that could provide more utility. We're going to Disney in November and my wife's FX35 is just too small for all our crap!

Nice to see that there is a Chicago 'scene' for AMG. I am probably looking to buy an E55 next summer, or later (purchasing a condo sooner), but it is good to keep in mind for when that time comes around.

Still between an e46 M and the W211 E55, but I know you guys will be bias towards one (although I am becoming so as well).

I own both. Two totally different cars. Depends on what aspects you are looking for most and how you plan to use the cars. Generally the m3 is more engaging sports car from a handling, shifting feel vs. the e55 which is a really fast lux cruiser.

Any questions let me know I can give you more impressions between the two.

I originally was leaning towards the E46 because of it's sport characteristics. I always told myself one day I will own an M. Now that funds are aligning correctly I figured it was the time. Truth be told, however, I am more into the raw speed and acceleration over the 'sport' feel of the car. While I love a car that handles very well, I don't have access to a track, nor does city/highway driving lead me much opportunity to engage the handling.

While I previously mention that I always knew one day I would own an M, my dream cars hold the AMG badging. I find the mercedes to hold an incredible balance of luxury and performance that isn't seen in many other cars. Luxury/comfort wise, the M won't compare to the AMG. As for raw straight line speed, the M won't compare here either. I had investigated the possibilities of eventually adding an HPF turbo kit to an M, but it would push me to a range that the AMG is already nearing, and for very little can be put into.

The benefits to me for the M, besides the handling, is the larger/and more affordable, imo, aftermarket for the cars, the gas mileage (not a huge concern), and I have seen many 200k+ M3 motors, so reliability with maintenance seems to be of benefit. On top of that it would fulfill the boy-dream.

Taking these aspects out, I can't find any other benefit the M holds over the E55, and I find many benefits vise versa.

I'll have to sit down and write a comprehensive comparison between the two as they are kinda night and day. In summary (IMO) the m3 can be more fun to drive (engaging) while the e55 has much less feel but is faster (in straight line) and more comfortable for daily driving.

How do you plan on using the car? What aspects are important to you? Price wise they are pretty comparable right now.

Hey bro, do what are the dates you will be in Chi? Maybe we can at least get a small group together to say hi to one of the Houston crew. It might be a long shot for me because I could still be down from a little surgery coming up end of Aug, but I would love to meet you after all of these years.

Maybe we could schedule another meet at the dragway. If you dont have your car with you you could take mine for a few runs. Buy the way the new Belt Wrap Kit is working great. I cant wait to see how it improves my times, My car pulls allot harder now.

The car will be used as a daily driver by someone who doesn't need to drive daily, if that makes sense. I don't drive at the moment, live in the city and utilize CTA because it 'makes sense,' but I am getting to the point where the money spent on owning a car again is certainly worth it for the comfort it provides.

Speed really is my number one aspect. Beyond that comfort. In an ideal world, I would see myself owning both. DD'ing the 55 and weekend driving the 3.

Hey bro, what part of WI do you live in? I list Milwaukee, but I actually live just south of the little village of Wales.

I live 16 miles outside of Madison in Stoughton, WI about 60 miles from Wales. I have been trying to make one of the meet & greets to meet fellow AMG owners but I work Saturdays when every one usually gathers. To bad you have class on Wednesdays, maybe you can play hooky

That makes sense. I live dt and don't need to drive either. Walk to office. Best advice go drive both extensively if you can. The e46 m3 IMO is one of the last fun sports cars to get a lot of things right before everything it too heavy and overly driver assisted. It's more of a drivers car. The e55 drives you. It's all preference. I kinda love both for very different reasons.

scoto, you aren't too far away from me. We should see if we could put a small group of AMG guys together for a little meet and greet or maybe road trip down to a Chi meet one of these days. I have to make class Wednesday night, but i will probably be preoccupied thinking of you guys screaming down the track.

I am thinking of taking the long route to the track and stopping by SL65_Rockford's for GYROS on the way (3pm?). Sorry for the confusion on the date in my original post I just realized Wednesday is the 29th not the 28th.

Wednesday 8/29 5pm to 10pm

Lol..I have every mod, that's the problem, 180mm pulley, 82mm throttle body, EC long tube headers, EC H/E, meizere pump, trunk tank, no cats or resonators, X-pipe, mandrel bent exhaust, stock mufflers and tips, looped fuel rail w/ 550cc injectors and of course a tune, something is wrong with it, should be going alot faster, 1/8 mile mph is only 92mph, should be more like 102mph, having it looked at again next week.

Are non-AMG vehicles welcome? I'm new to this board but I live near the track and have raced there in my other cars many times. I'd love to meet some of the local members.
