Bigger than 82mm TB
The shop that made the headers for my car asked me if they could have a stock TB to try something different out.
They are basically going to use the electronics from a stock TB and try to fab up a bigger one. When I say bigger the ID is going to be around 92mm.
Just figured I would show you all.
Thoughts, inputs, criticism all are welcome

How would you fit to the supercharger inlet?
Would you need to have an 80mm ported to 92mm?
Is it even possible to port it that large without major fabrication?

I like this but I would do more into making a bigger Y pipe and bigger air boxes as I have seen 20whp from running my car with no air filters and I pick up 2mph at the track when running no air filters so that shows a ported 80mm tb is ok since its bottle neck is before it.
If you make it too big I think the car will feel on-off on the throttle and not be smooth to drive with it that big.I think with tuning you can make it happen tho if jerry can adjust the throttle responce a little to dull the pedel to make up for the extra air going in.
I still think a 82 best but I cant wait to see your results

How about baby steps and go for 85,87 or 90 for now so that it could be determined that the our fuel systems can keep up with the additional air or would we have to upgrade to higher volume fuel pumps,larger fuel rail, fuel lines etc....
Also just to add on a larger Y pipe, the biggest that will fit (depending on angle) is 3" and if you added a spacer for your 82mm tb you can forget about it. A 3" Y pipe butts right up against the firewall

I have an 82mm that has been bored out to 85mm. Works fine and made alot more power once I added a custom y-pipe. My y-pipe is 3" feeds that expand out to a 3.5" at the TB (you are right Angelo about the filters too). 92mm sounds like a good idea. I still wonder if we can get a dodge TB to work. Tempted to just buy one and try it out...

i noticed an 12hp loss, no ETs to quantify...i just know sometimes too big isn't better...
but then again...its all going to come down to R&D...but as someone mentioned above....bigger heads, bigger pulleys, bigger t-bodies...someone may need to start looking at complete fuel system upgrades before people starting hurting motors...just my .02

Shardul since you started this thread I might aswell let you in on my y-pipe setup that will fit perfect to your bigger TB

Almost nothing. You can't go bigger unless you start shortening the snout. I think that is probably what you would want to do here anyway so that you can get a nice sized y-pipe to fit in.

Have you measured the pressure differential pre/post tb? If you have and you already have a 82mm tb you won't pursue this project. Just saying

This would have been my final mod but cash says NO!
Good enough for the 6.3....good enough for us. Imagine DUAL stockers. Be almost 140mm of wide open power.
Just gotta figure out the wiring to get the ECU to play nice. Then customer fabbing the connector to blower.
Sigh..........someday.

I know on a 03-04 cobra with a 3.4 whipple going from a 100mm throttle body to a 160mm throttle body they pick up a solid 30-40hp from the start of a dyno pull and have been proven to make 100+ RWHP over 6100 rpm where the smaller throttle body just cant keep up. I'd be willing to bet that with a 92mm if you lost 5hp down low you would gain at least 20hp up top over the 82mm we have now and it would continue to climb in the rpm range. My car makes power to 6500rpm with the cams and ported heads and losses 30hp by the time it hits 6700rpm. I honestly think its mostly due to not having enough air flow.

can you pm me your dyno if its not on here? I would like to compare your curves with mine up top and what cams are you on? klees or custom?

I think the y pipe will help out any TB also and will be testing a bigger y pipe soon too.Is there any info on your y pipe somewhere? did you just fab up a custom one or go the silicon way like Im trying to.
