Puerto Rico is moving to 91 oct, time for methanol?

I had a meth system with a single large injector before and had issues with it so I sold it without really trying to hard to fix it.

Now I'm faced with all gas stations in PR going to 91oct ( most had 93 and now only 2 brands are left with 93 and they have announced that they will also move to 91 ).

Sooooo...time for a meth kit again?

What I was thinking is, since my car won't be tuned for the meth per say, how about adding two TINY meth injector in the surge tanks ( one in each surge tank ) and running pure meth ( or maybe even pure water? ). Does this sound like something that would workwell?

ORRRRRRR

I could install and rear intercooler tank ( maybe 5 gal? ) and tune for 91 oct.

Which do you think would make me quicker/more consistent on 91?

I would wait for the Cali boys to chime in because most of them run 91 octane without meth and make damn good power. It seems like Jeremy from OETUNING has a super stout tune for that octane without meth.

A good person to talk to is Bramage, I believe he made 491/590 on the heartbreaker with 91 oct and meth. I dont believe he tuned for the meth. He has a Jeremy tune in his beast.

Yeah, I know cali is just as screwed.

How about I use the injector in the throttle body this time? And maybe run a TINY injector, just enough to offset of the available pump oct?

The problem I had before is that I placed it before the intercooler, after the supercharger, and not only did I lose power every time I used it ( car went WAY rich with the meth ), it also flooded my intercooler and made the care barely driveable until it cleared out. Scary situation.

What people dont understand is that to utilize meth you need to change the tune for it. Meth is like running race gas and injecting more of it so its going to run richer. If you had a tune for meth and backed the fueling off slightly and added a few more degrees of timing it would pick up 50hp.

I like your idea of injecting meth in each surge tank but its going to take some fine tuning to get everything perfect and i would start with the smallest nozzle and work your way up from there.

How about just water? Water won't make it run richer and should be able to suppress the knock.

Sound right?

Water by itself will work fine and not increase the AFR. Water when injected just turns into a vapor inside the combustion chamber and absorbs the heat to keep from it from detonating.

i have a custom trunk tank setup and think that's a must for these cars. I've tossed around the idea of meth or even just water injection but i dont beat on it on the street too much and when im at the track i use the ice tank.

when tuning my audi for meth 7 degrees of timing was added and picked up 40hp... without the tune though meth just bogged down my engine and fouled all the plug.... seems getting it on the dyno and slowly tweaking the timing and fuel is key with meth otherwise its not of much use.. When my car was first on the dyno on base tune it was sputtering all over the place when started spraying the meth and by the end timing was +7 degrees and running like a champ.

Also from every thing i have read seems to say the nozzles should be about 6-10 inches before the TB to prevent pooling and allow it to disperse.

I've been using it for awhile now and for our cars the boost based systems in my opinion aren't good enough. I just did some pulls on Jeremy's dyno and made 496/601 on it but the problem is up high we were having trouble controlling afr with it. I'm going to an aquamist hfs-2 to hopefully fix this that controls the spray via IDC and boost. From a temp perspective it works very well with the standard boost based systems, problem is consistency since every run it was a bit different. We made 4 pulls in a row and it was awesome to see that the supercharger and surge tanks were still cool to the touch. I'm running a #3 ahead of the blower essentially at the Y pipe and a #7 after the IC. It is likely too much for 50/50 but I had sized it for 100% meth.

Or you can add some corn gas to bring octane up but would take custom mixture each time.
