opinions on E-55 on ebay

Hi,I am newly registered but have been reading awhile as I like E-55's. Sorry off the bat for posting this twice as I posted by mistake in the W212 forum. What does everyone think about this E-55 on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...US_Cars_Trucks

Is the price realistic and how much would the warranty add to the value compared to others without a warranty. I have read quite a few threads about how hard it is to get a warranty on E-55's now.

Thanks!

I was looking into this one also. Good buy but not really optioned. I think lowest was 22,750 he would go. If you can get it for 22,750, it will be a steal at that mileage!

Thanks for the reply! What options really make a difference it does not have? I have read some of the pricey options do give problems. I'm really not into the Pano roof. Keyless go doesn't appeal to me either. Did this model come with Nav and if so is it updateable and comparable to the nav systems available today?

Apparently no 2003 E55 came with navigation so it would be pricey if you put it in yourself. I would look for 2004+. If your going to buy AMG, need to have options you want, which is why I waited almost 2 months before I just picked up my CLS55

Usually those looking for an E55 do alot of searching and scrounging before buying simply because you have to be sure of what you are buying, usually from this forum there will be good solid cars, on eBay it depends....

Options like vented/heated seats, keyless, pano etc. will drive the price higher than if it were just basic options, you must also look at what mods if any and of course how clean and maintained the car is, if it has an extended warranty then that will greatly increase the price as well..

This is a great place to learn about the E55 before buying

Happy hunting!

I bought my 2006 a year and a half ago, 53,000 miles on it, perfect condition and paid $30,000 from a dealer if that will give you any idea.
Only car I've ever owned that 6 months later I wasn't ready for something else. Can't walk away without looking back--ha. I've put 46,000 miles on it since I purchased it and had very few problems--front strut, a pulley, dynamic seat switch and sc pump.

The car still has 2 years or 50,000 miles left on the $100 deductible warranty. Sounds awesome.

It might be an 03, but the mileage is very low IMO.

The mileage and warranty is what has me thinking! Yeah...I really like the look of a 200MPH speedometer in the 04's and later...but what really are the differences between an 03 vs. 04 and later?

I too will say stay away from 2003 E55! 1st year is always not a good idea. I will tell you I purchased new in 2003 and had many electrical/electronic issues. Keyless go locking unlocking issues, car shutting down by itself then not able to start in mist of intersection, trunk closer opening after just closing and walking away. Cliamate controls having a mind of its own. This is just to name a few. Now maybe mine was just a bad unit. That being said Mercedes Benz did the right thing after some discussions and replaced the car after 23 months of the car spending most of its time on the rack in the service bay. I ended up with a 2006 that I absolutely love. Now I will say that it was an experience and was able to drive many other type cars MBZ's as well as other rental cars while mine was in shop.

my two cents
Good luck to ya

The bi-xenon lighting package is nice to have, the heated/cooled seats don't actually cool, and the nav sucks and isn't updatable past 2005 or 2006 maps I believe. This means that half the roads around me don't exist in the nav, it takes six hours to enter an address, and it will only take you to the block, not the house number. I also have the dynamic seats, and they were fun for about a day. I haven't turned them on in over two years. So the short answer is, unless YOU feel like you must have a certain option, don't worry about it.

Unless you are looking to drag/track the car, I don't see a point in buying an E55 with zero options or upgrades. But of course this is a personal preference thing.

OP, figure out what options, mileage, and years you want first, then start looking.

Well the later models 2005 and 2006 E55 have the cls55 rear suspension I believe as well, an expert can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong

I am also a believer of not buying anything the first year it comes out because it can have bugs , if the 2003 is a late 2003 maybe,
This goes with anything..the 1984 corvette was a disaster but 1985-1991 had hardly any probs, the first iPhone had a lot of probes that they ironed out by the next release, I'm sure you can see where I'm going here lol

I have an 03 and I haven't put many miles on it yet, it hasn't had an issue at all other than a noise that was there when I purchased that I suspect is a trans mount that is common on all of these cars.

Its an 03, its now 2012, it has 45,000 miles and if everything is working now it will likely remain working and any bugs will have been fixed with software updates for the most part. 2003's aren't to be feared as many here claim in my opinion. The known problems on these cars are showing up across most all model years now and the quirks an 03 may have had have been long since ironed out unless its a VERY low mileage car.

You have a warranty that will cover anything that may come up. Also the navigation leaves something (a lot) to be desired. Your smart phone likely has a much easier to use system. Just my .02

Thanks for all the input! Well...the car does have a great carfax other than the fact it was previously leased and seemed to float between dealers for a couple of years. Some of the comments definately have me doing more research!

Is a previously leased car a bad thing????

The car does have a few options. I think I can live without those it doesn't have. Think, think, think! I still have to decide if I really want a beast! Guess I better check on insurance as I was thinking about a vette awhile back and the insurance was outrageous! Good Driving record,etc...but wow is all I can say!

As long as everything has been up to date, I'd say buy it! I purchased mine with 85k after researching for months on this car I stole it "price" and it needs nothing. Serviced at the stealership its whole life. This car is a beast from hell you won't want another car!!!

Milage is just a number sometimes, as I have seen 100k mile cars that look better than 50k mile cars, it all depends on how it was maintained and cared for, you sometimes have to be there to see it
