1300kg SLR 722

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...-300kg-lighter

How on God's Earth do you drop 300kg off an already carbon fiber car and not strip the life out of it and its interior which by the way would still not be enough

300kg is a BIG DEAL and on an SLR..... I mean I started a thread a while back on dropping 200-250kg off the E55 and everybody was saying how insane and difficult and impossible yadiyada.

Very impressed as a 1300kg SLR is just deadly weapon. Weighing less than a ZR1 and can be upgraded to 750hp, just insane

You obviously never work on your E55. Dropping couple hundreds pounds on the E is very easy.

That true I haven't however I have done a little research on the topic and 200kg with a full interior isn't that easy.

I mean I thought the Airmatic delete got rid of 100 pounds which is what BenzoBoi said at the time but others have said the coilover swap does little for weight therefore if true alot of the weight savings which I thought were possible through coilovers aren't as good as they were original thought to be. I know brake discs save a bit depending on which ones. Though carbon ceramic isn't an option with SBC. Wheels are another. Battery is a great way though not sure how it would be for DD'ing say you accidentally leave the radio on without the engine running.... CF driveshaft helps too. Exhaust is another place to save weight and also getting rid of tools and spare (if you have them). Not having Pano is a big weight saver as well.

Now I can't think of more without going for bucket seats, carbon fiber panels and roof, titanium nuts and bolts etc which are pretty drastic. Weight saving is very expensive compared to power mods so not sure who would do any of this, I know I wouldn't on this car but it's nice to estimate what the savings would be if one was to proceed with such a project. Plus weight savings are another alley after power mods are exhausted.

Now remember the 722 is lighter than the normal SLR (I think) which weighs 1650-1750kg (I've seen different quotes) so to drop another 300kg from a carbon fiber chassis car.... Makes you wonder if the E55 could go down to 1500kg with full interior.

For those not on the metric system. That's 2860lbs!!!!!

Corvette ZL1......3353lbs
Enzo...........3009lbs
Pagini Huayra......3064lbs
P Car GT2 RS.........3050lbs

What the hell took them so long doing this. The SLR would have reined supreme as the greatest supercar ever produced even to this day!!!

2005 E55 AMG
I don't even know how the SLR even got to weigh 3800lbs with so much carbon fiber. I also don't know how a 3800lb car gets to weigh 2800lbs with a 660lb weight reduction...the math is off.

I think you're right as there seems to be no "GTR" version only GT which is a race car but when you think about it the race car has the same body work except the slits and what not which aren't necessary for a road car. It has a massive wing which adds weight and so does the roll cage but the interior is stripped, not completely but alot. Still if someone were to use the same materials on the bodywork as the race car and not have the wing or roll cage while also "revising the interior" and replacing parts with lighter ones they could get close to that for a road car.

As for the E55 I think it's possible to drop 550lbs with full interior IF you use extremely lightweight parts for the stuff you replace outside the car. At a 550lb drop the E55 with over 600whp like e55amgrocket is making the car would be in the 9s no doubt. But weight savings are so damn expensive!!!!

Here is an article about the car, it's the race version after all but when you look at the mods things like the wing and roll cage ADD weight. The bodywork has to be dry CF therefore there is no reason they couldn't make the bodywork in the shape of the road car without all those openings and what not. The door cards are changed, the seats too and the sound proofing is good and I believe so is the AC, radio, sat nav and sound system.

You've only been here 12 months & totally solved EVERYBODY's modding problems w/the most obvious solution, just simply hack-off 550-600 lbs & still retain "Full Interior" I'd love to see you or anyone FIND & replace 600 lbs while retaining "Full Interior"

Remember your 1st post here..

Average moded E55k w/out Pano roof, or driver, @ the VERY best weighs 4000-4100 lbs.. I'm dying to see your 3400-3500 lb E55k or even semi-REALISTIC mod-list in which you retain "Full Interior" & your 9 second 1/4 mi slips lol... BTW let us know how the "Blower Sound/Whine" changes w/these mods

You've set everyone off w/thought this GTR SLR is REMOTELY made for regular Street use, it's a totally stripped bare-bones Race-Car etc..
Not hating... Just some of the stuff you come up with
