Last I read Mercedes got an extension from the NHTSA. If they decide to do a recall, how will this affect the class action?
Good question. Hopefully we will get swift and positive response from NHTSA, I imagine it'd be a lot faster than a suit. I'd guess that a recall would not provide for refunds, so maybe that's where a class would pick up? Who knows, but this is too obvious a defect for there not to be satisfaction via one method or another.
...plus 1800 for the cost of tank replacement...
Sign me up! I just started smelling gas last month after a fill up.

Good question, I'll shoot him an email and see what the latest is. I haven't reached out for a status update in a while anyway.. Me, probably like everyone else, has been waiting to see what the NHTSA turned up.

This hasn't happened to my car yet. Is this something I should worry about? I'm hoping this doesn't happen in 'every' W211...
Add me to the list. My car had the recall performed and now its worse than before the recall. If I fill up all the way the fumes inside and out of the car are bad enough to make me really light headed.

Hello, just last week my E350 2007 completely died while I was sitting at a traffic light. I had it towed to the dealership. Long story short, I have been advised that the Fuel tank sending unit got stuck. There was no gas in the tank, despite the gas gauge showing 1/2 tank full. The cost of repair is going to be $3100 ($1900 part/1200 labor). I asked if there were any recalls on this and advised "none." After researching online, I have found many complaints for this same problem, especially with the E-class. Can anyone advise me how they were able to resolve this issue with MB? If anyone was able to maybe get a discount on repair cost? (my CPO is expired and I did not pick up the after market warranty). I am being told that the sending unit and gas tank have to be completely replaced. This is such a nightmare! Any really good advice is welcomed!

You might also want to file a complaint with the NHTSA.
By chance, can you recommend a company that offers the extended warranty? I know I can go through the finance office but was hoping there was a less expensive route to adding an extended warranty. It seems this could possibly be the first of many service problems to come with my car. I want to be prepared this time.
