Amg engine sound
Hi all,
I have 2 AMG vehicle with v6 kompessor and v8 e55 kompressor, both of them have strange engine sound that appear after 5 min of cold start at morning. It is not hydraulic lifters sound this sound is little bit lower and muffled, better hear able under wheel defense covered. Some service shop says this sound creates contact with the piston and connecting rod at their maximum amplitude at the top ofthe fold. Can you help me with this issue.
70 000 miles, new 5/40 synthetic oil. car is stock.
Thanks

If I understand you have a metallic sounding ticking or knocking noise best heard from your wheel well area? I have this same sound. Mine comes from (I think) drivers side, and I can't exactly tell where the origin is. I have tried stethescope and laying under car. I did here the noise the best when stethescoping the fuel rail, but then again that could have been the closest injector in synch with it. I know i need motor mounts, and I am wondering if this is the cause. Haven't had time to look further into it lately.

Mercedes engines have loud injectors, the oil pumps are also loud, valvetrain is loud. Owners cannot be sensitive. If you're sensitive, get a different vehicle, maybe a toyota or lexus.

These are not quiet "nice" motors - they are noisy "angry" motors

Video one and three sound normal. Video two is bit noisy but could be the mic on the camera. Oil level OK? I thought mine was noisy once until I found it to be 2qts low, but it was time to change the oil anyway.
Or maybe your engine is upset that all its friends are making fun of how dirty it is?

Mine has same exact sound on driver's side. More pronounced tapping heard from SAME two areas. Not all that worried, I just like to know what is making the noise. Regardless mine goes like hell. So wutev.
BTW-don't clean your engine. There's so much dirt it's probably insulating most of the noise. LOL, jkjk.

Cold start, the oil is not in operating temperature. Once it gets to 190-200 degrees it will start to work properly. The engine & it's different components are limited in their abilities below operating temps.
