what is required to swap out my E55 steering wheel to an E63 wheel?
I see pics of a box with wires connected to it and I don't recall my car having this. I have an 05 E55. Other than the airbag and steering wheel...do I need anything else?

hey GT
the replacement steering wheel should have that box in it, loads of these wheels on german ebay, straight swap.

I havent had the need to look for ages but
steering 1
no silver box on this one tho
black series
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Mercedes-Benz...#ht_839wt_1396
a little pricey
another cheap one
no box again
you just have to keep searching as they do come up often, if you have no patience then you end up paying big bucks!
good luck!

complete with the silver box and paddles!

If I use this box, will the swap be straight up?

I know its been asked again and again, but can we somehow adapt these steering wheels to 04s even if it requires gutting the wiring from one wheel and splicing wires into the new wheel?

The E63 steering wheel improved my car in a way that I could never have believed. The stock wheel is a real disappointment for the price point.

Or just get an E63 and the wheel is free, and already wired.

I ended up using Chris Messmer's CMessmer@roos.com module due to issues i did not have time to attend to. Thanks again Chris the paddle shifters work perfect!

Worth mentioning ...
... In an effort to work within MB World Policy, I should probably point out that the most correct way to get this module (the "Mercedes Paddle Converter") is to buy it from an MB world Sponsor (rather than directly from me). DCT motorsports (an MB World sponsor) stocks this module (and offers it separately ... OR installed with paddles in amazing steering wheel remake/retrofit conversions). If you happen to be in Europe, http://www.comandonline.co.uk also has this module in stock. Any questions about this module (or other paddle integrations ) can be sent to me.
Chris
P.S. ... here is a link to a thread with more info on the module ....
