Yes, wheel is on car, paddles working etc.... . The only minor disturbance and one i can live with, is that at night, the left hand indicator is a little tight (close to wheel) to use paddles, although still works fine( during day I leave it in bright mode). You are right it took some thinking outside the box, but the girth and feel of the new wheel makes it all worth the effort. it feels like a new car! I will post a few pics next week. I Still wish I had ur solution as it would have saved some time.

Do you have to cut into the wheel to make them fit? Also will it fit my DCT e55 wheel?

the install problem will be to fit the new style switch into the rectangular hole. It has to be wider, it wont fit as is. the rectangle panel should be cut up and trimmed to fit to the new switch. its a cut and fit job.

With this converter, SL55/CLK55 owners can
1) buy the 63 AMG steering wheel with paddles in the back and make it plug and play to the column socket
2) Just like Member okbarnett said, using the existing 55 AMG wheel and do some DIY work to attache the paddles in the back
3) We can offer the total solution for conversion

SL55 wood leather steering wheel with AMG 63 paddles

We now have this wheel for SL55 early models
with this wheel and our paddle conversion, SL55 owners can upgrade the wheel to 08~ type (AMG 63 paddles in the back)

if the your 2005 SL500 can be option coded for the shift buttons that were used in 2005 SL55's .... then yes, this module will then allow you to use the new AMG paddles in your car. (additional support wiring may be required).

if option coding is not available, there is potentially a work-around that will allow you to use the new paddles in your car (again, along with the converter module)

If you want to PM me your VIN, I can see if I can give you a somewhat more specif answer for your car.

I Checked your VIN in the EPC and found that if If I remove your datacard as a filter, shift buttons were called out (with option coding 428).

then, I looked on Ebay and found a 2005 sl500 sport .... that HAS shift buttons http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Only-...item3f1559ef17 and checked its VIN in the EPC and it shows the shift buttons are applicable and that the car was option coded 428 and has the 7speed .... the implication is that your car could be coded the same and use the buttons (or paddles along with the converter module). I have to take a little time to compare the equipment on your car to VIN of the one in the Ebay add to see if you need anything else (support wiring, different TCU, clockspring or Jacket tube module) ... it is posible that your car would only need the coding .

I will look a little more when I get back in town tuesday or wednesday
