Hankooks

I just ordered a set of Hankook V12's for my C55 from Onlinetires.com, they are better priced there than Tire Rack or anyplace else I looked.

IMO the V12's are reasonably priced and do just fine for DD purposes. The ones on my C55 lasted about 15K in....spirited.....driving conditions without issues, and they are not at all loud despite being 85% worn. Doing an encore based on how they treated me.

That being said, for my E63 I went with Michelin PSS as they were not much more $$ in W211 sizes.

Michelin makes great tires. If you are buying them because they are cheap, or because the PS2 or PSS are too expensive well you should have bought a different car.
it's not because they're cheap. There are hundreds of other "cheap" brands. Most people keep getting the V12's because they offer the best performance for a good price, especially for the normal daily driver. Most people don't feel the need to have super crazy $500 dollar tires just because they bought an "expensive" car. Your logic is retarded.

I think you just had a bad experience with a defective tire(s)

I am on my 3rd set of Hankooks on the rear, good tire for the money. I am averaging about 12-13k miles for rear tires and 17-18k on the fronts (in sport 2 mode with lowering module on). Someone mentioned getting 30k miles out of the PSS? I find that hard to believe with the amount of negative camber these cars run.

What the hell..? 30,000.? I just got 5K out of my rear PSS's...Granted I got 66% of the next two, but I wouldn't think you could ever get 15K out of them...

I agree, I didn't like the Hankooks, but to each their own and that's just my driving opinion. Those things were squirmy and had no rear grip...

I guess my wagons big booty helps with traction? I am pulling consistent 1.80 60ft times on the hankooks, which is not bad for a street tire.

It might, but I should also say I ran thru 4 sets of NT-05's before I put the hankooks on...I meant they were squirmy at speed on the highway, but I was comparing apples to oranges basically...Those PSS's are awesome tires though...Whoever said $500 a tire is insane...$1200 for the whole 19" set, AND treadwear warranty...The Kooks didn't really last any longer than anything else I had on my car...

+1 The 30K mile promise plan is nice too, despite it only being 15K since it is staggered.

I roasted the last set of rears in 7K miles, got two new ones yesterday for 140 a pop, not bad for a damn good tire.

Nothing wrong with ordering 'Kooks for these cars. Especially if you're lowered and are subsequently running a bit more camber, especially up front. If you are, you're gonna chew through a set of Michelins at the same rate as the Hankooks. I will concede that if you're not lowered, and running a stock wheel setup with MB spec camber/toe/caster, the Michelins might be the wiser choice. However, the value of the Ventus V12s can't be overlooked for those of us that are lowered. No matter what tire I choose, I'm not getting more than 10K miles out of em.

Plus, it's cool that my car has a "V12" and is riding on V12s.

BTW, i can neither confirm nor deny that my Hankooks have seen 160+mph and the car felt completely in shape. My sphincter? Not so much.

so basically the PSS owners are keeping the prices high by continually burning through their tires and using the warranty to get more tires for cheaper...

I'm wondering how long Michelin will continue this

+1 on this^ ...

I tried the hankook's and they were ok but only lasted about 8K... for an extra $400 the michelin PSS are a much better choice and will last twice as long as the hankooks, not to mention outperform them

i just ordered a set of PSS for $1156 - $60 rebate = $1096 shipped to installer

Toad: Just ordered my Kook's through that special DT promo a few weeks ago, definitely a good deal at $564 shipped! Now, time to see how long they last! I might try Yoko S.Drive next since my buddies sister works there and gets em for cheap. Happy Hunting Amigo

If you go through the PSS in one month by going to the track, drag strip, doing continuous burnouts, etc... you think Michelin will warranty your tires? I dont think so. If that was the case Michelin would be replacing tires left and right for free. I didn't buy the PSS becuase of the 30k warranty, I bought them becuase I wanted superior performance in a tire.

The PSS out perform the Hankooks in every catagory including tread wear.
Hankooks are great tires and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. But its hard, especially after having such a great experience with the super sports.

It's the nature of the cars...I've always gone 2:1 replacing rears to fronts...When I got mine replaced before selling the car the rears were gone in 5K miles (most of it 90mph highway driving on I-40 and I-30) but my fronts still had at least 7/32" left...

There's nothing wrong with the Hankooks and you will enjoy them a ton over A/S tires...I think everyone is just saying the PSS is a better tire, which for the price premium it should be...The V12's even kinda of made it thru a freak snow storm in the mountains in VA...I would not suggest that though

I paid $799 for Toyo Proxes 4s for 2 245/40/18 and 2 275/35/18 installed, tax, title, tags, out the door. The rears last about 15-18K miles and I got just about 30K out of the fronts.

I've heard nothing but good about those PS2's, but I could never justify paying at least half again for a set of tires while driving around town for a db less of noise or something that separates them from other tires.

Michelin does make great tires,i agree.that being said i bought a set of Goodyear Asymmetric 2 for my E63 and like them as much as any Michelin i have ever owned.so far everything about this tire is perfect.granted i only have 2000 miles on them, but i really like them so far.they are a 2:1 improvement over the old Asymmetric and i honestly put them right up there with the Michelins.i like them better than the PS2 and PS3 but haven't tried the PSS on anything yet so i can't compare to that.

also you can get the staggered set for under $800 if you count the $80 rebate card.they are worth checking out and way better that the Hankook, for similar money.

here is a test they were in recently:

gotta love America's Tire - pricematched to onlinetires.com, got the $100 gift card, and $80 off the Hankook tires
got the full set mounted and out the door for under $800

the first few miles are always a blast with the new surface, squirrelly *** end all the way home

I just got back to FL after a 700 mile road trip from nashville tn on my newly installed michelin PSS and hands down they blow my old hankook v12s away.. there is a mountian pass just before chattanogga TN where normally i hit 110 mph downhill before the hankooks start to feel unstable and unplanted, while in the new PSS tires i looked down and was at 130 and felt like i was at 90...

there were a few other turns on that road trip that i normally take at x speed and in the the pss it was x+20mph so i am really amazed at the pss so far on the e55 and they are not harsh at all... actually made the car feel more soft and smooth..

and launching grip vs the hankooks is no comparison, they hook wayyy better than my old hankooks

these new michelins are def living up to the hype so far! i think i found my new permanent tire
