Another RTR pulley failure

Another RTR pulley failure
Sitting on the side of the freeway now waiting for tow. Was driving along in traffic and started loosing power. Pulled off the freeway and popped the good and see the pulley wobbling and motor.struggling to run. Pulley was an 180 and I had about 1100 miles on it prior to this. Just checked it Saturday as I've been nervous about it and it was running true. Funny enough I was told.there was no need to worry by the vendor when I called in a few Weeks ago to.ask about swapping it out. I was told the 180 had passed engineering test at ASP and the other pulley failures were due to lack of clamping force for the big 190 and up pillows only. Not sure what to do as I have a sick feeling this is going to be a full rebuild.

Sorry to hear that.......I also previously purchased a RTR pulley, but changed my order before shipment to a ASP/EC pulley instead based upon a few other guys BAD luck too !!!! I guess loss of power never a good sign Do you think any crank or internal parts damage ?!?! BEST of LUCK with your outcome after evaluation !!!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm sure this will be deemed another installation error, but I can tell you we used a bore scope to ensure the pulley was perfectly on the keyway. Used a recently calibrated Snap-On torque wrench and followed MB instructions to a T (though you can't utilize the stock pulley holding tool so that's an issue as well). In any event it lasted over 1000 miles and probably 100+ WOT pulls.

That sucks!!! You will probably need to pull motor apart and send crank out to be fixed. Have you contacted rtr?? Not that they are going to do anything. More and more failure showing up. Broke and Shardul when are you going to step up and take care of your junk pulley???
They are sponsors on mbw now. The site should take action to protect their members... Unless they just want the sponsor money

Good luck is all I can say. Your about to go down the same road I'm going down right now. Crank is out to see if it can even be repaired. Everyone thought Craig and I were "pushing the envelope" with these pulleys when the truth is the pulleys are junk and it's been proven. FYI I'm out of pocket over $2700 Already and don't even know if the crank is fixable or not yet. I don't mean this is a bad way but atleast your the 2nd person that has a lot of miles on it like I did when it failed. If it was a bad install it would of fell off long ago. The pulleys are defective and anyone running one is on borrowed time. Let's see what Brooke has to say now or if he will even respond in this thread......

I have basically the same mods as you but different head porter (no nitrous though), I was told you and Craig were pushing the envelope with "nitrous and all kinds of other 'stuff'" so I'm sure they'll say my car was too modded or install error or.... At this point all I want is my car back together but I'm sure it's going to probably be a new crank and all the necessary machine work to even get back to where I was before the pulley install.

wow, this is what now? 5 pulleys. There needs to be a recall of some sorts, this is no longer a coincidence. To the OP, hope everything turns out well.

Terrible news man. It was really funny how everything played out for me and Steve, at first the moderators were neutral. Then Brooke decided if he became a sponsor, he would have more clout and get them to shut us up. Well, what do you know, I was told to take everything private and off the forums right after he sponsored up, saying that we all get it now, Steve and I no longer need to carry on about this, and basically need to shutup as it is becoming a one sided flaming battle.
Seems like once you are sponsored up, even a product like rtr could be protected. Brooke tried to ask Steve and I for the pullies back for testing, do you honestly think we would give up our key piece of evidence, then we would have nothing left to stand on. When I get to work, I will show you in a new video taken yesterday what the rtr pulley did to my crank. The wobble and spinning on the snout ovalled it as I got a brand new 195mm asp pulley from TTM, and it wobbles to like crazy, result out of round or no longer straight crank.
OP, I am so sorry this happened and hit me via pm if you need anything, Steve and are will exchange any information you need as far as what fixes are available, what to expect from rtr etc.

Brooke and Shardul would rather faulk out a monthly sponsoring fee to control what is said, than rather pull all these puppies off the market, pay for the damages they have caused, and stand behind their product. They still believe that Steve and I installed them wrong, lmfao, based on what the OP said above about clamping force.
What are you going to do now moderators, another member has come forward, you still going to protect your sponsor??
Who did you buy the pulley from OP?

i was actually at the shop in atl. getting my car dyno tuned and had an opportunity to watch the techs do the asp pulley install on chawkins2001 car. digital torque wrench, marked the pulley to determine the 90* final stretch and the asp pulley was brand new along with a brand new 12.9 grade bolt. the owner himself worked with the tech on the final phases of the install and it was done properly. its sad to see all this carnage and hope its resolved quickly

Makes me thankful we have options like Kleemann and EC, companies we know have put the proper time in to design and test their product. I may not get the HUGE dyno numbers like a 180mm pulley would, but there's something to be said for worry-free reliability and drivability.

This really sucks, but since I'm finally considering doing a crank pulley I have some questions.
How many WOT pulls is an aftermarket pulley supposed to last? What's the expected MTBF on any of this aftremarket tuner stuff? Were the WOT pulls down the dragstrip, down the road, or on a dyno? Does the type of WOT pull make any difference?
What seems weird is that the issue with the RTR pullies is them coming unattached, while other pulley suppliers that have had issues like VRP and early EC actually had physical pulley failures - pullies self-destructing.
I guess there's a reason to stick with proven pullies from real MB tuners like Renntech and Kleemann.

Terrible news man. It was really funny how everything played out for me and Steve, at first the moderators were behind us, called Brooke and Shardul frauds. Then Brooke decided if he became a sponsor, he would have more clout and get them to shut us up. Well, what do you know, I received a warning from them right after he sponsored up, saying that we all get it now, Steve and I no longer need to carry on about this, and basically need to shutup as it is becoming a one sided flaming battle.
This was all through pm, and I am deciding whether I want to post it in the open forum for You guys to show you how money can change everything. Seems like once you are sponsored up, even a s++t product like rtr will be protected along with upd. Brooke tried to get his wife to ask steve and I for the pullies back for testing and MAYBE come to a resolution, well the moderators said I should comply as he CC them on the pm. I am really sorry for all that have the RTR pulley....Especially those that have experienced failures...
