Berti00-- how long did you use/have the device in your car? just 2 weeks?

Another method for big business to control our lives. Insurance is a necessity, however THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!
Let's see:
Dream: 09:00am: Board meeting with top execs, analyst. "OK team, I want to find a way to save our customers a ton of money and at the same time for us to lose additional revenue. Who is with me?"

Reality: 07:30am: CEO to rest. :" Listen up all you MF, we are going to convince those that do not know anything about insurance to plug a device into their car, so that we can really screw them over." "Good idea boss."

Really, who falls for this stuff these days?

Yup I get that point. But.....what if you were to find a way around it and trick them......like I think I have....
But one needs to read the fine print:
http://www.progressive.com/auto/snap...statement.aspx
and
http://www.progressive.com/auto/snap...onditions.aspx
They are all nice and protecting your privacy:
"However, the device does not have GPS, so it does not track vehicle location or whether you're exceeding the speed limit (although, with your consent, we may be able to determine the approximate location of your vehicle using cellular technology in the event of theft)"
BUT: You will not get notification when the T&C changes (AND THEY WILL)
"The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies (Progressive) reserves the right to modify the terms and conditions at any time. Modifications to these terms and conditions can be viewed by logging in to your policy through www.progressive.com. Continued participation in Snapshot by you will constitute your acceptance of any revisions to these terms and conditions. Please check this page regularly."
Also: do not do it if you are leasing your car, as you are not in charge anymore.
"In the event that you have an insurance claim with us, we will not use the data to resolve the claim without first obtaining your permission or (if not you) the registered vehicle owner's permission."
Again this is a data business, they are not here to save you money, they are here to make money, they are trading a 2-4% discount right now for a larger payback later. And you better believe they WILL deny claim based on this.
I found it interesting that it is not available in most states that have strong consumer protection around insurance, like Cali or Washington.

Bottom line, I will not get anywhere close this or similar tech.
