X-pipe question

I was going to do a resonator delete in the next few days, and I was thinking about getting an X-pipe to replace them at. What's the X-pipe really going to do in terms of sound and performance? Anything? I doubt performance will be affected, but how's it sound in comparison to say, just straight pipes? Anyone have insight on this?

I believe the X-Pipe will reduce the choppiness compared to a straight pipe. I am not sure about performance.

Good question. I would like to know more as I am considering deleting the resonators for more sound.

Correct, my exhaust = primary cats -> xpipe w/o secondary cats -> resonator -> stock mufflers

and in my opinion sounds much better than the hand full of 55's that I've done exhaust work for at our shop (from resonator deletes, full cat deletes, even complete straight pipes from the headers all the way back to the tips, sounded terrible..)

Removing the resonator only, will make the tone a little bit lower but not louder at all trust me, have had many dissapointed customers who've requested it.

X-pipes let both banks equalize the exhaust pressures which make for a better sound smoother sound. As far as power gains? not sure.

+1

I did the resonator delete, but left the secondary cats - there's an H-connection just prior to the secondaries so there is some balance, but an X-pipe will improve flow more...

my exhaust is more 'burbly' since the resonator delete - but definitely not loud (which is how I wanted it)

I have long-tubes with secondary cats. Will adding an x-pipe improve the burble sound of the exhaust and increase the sound. I still have the stock mufflers and do not want the droning. I like that it's quiet when coasting, but would like to hear it more when I am on it.

If your just going to do a resonator delete, then go with straight pipes.. Id suggest going with a secondary cat and resonator delete, with an x pipe in place of the secondaries

They can make them, but it probably easiest just to use a universal one.. Magnaflow makes them

Thanks for your input!
It is great to get info from someone who is both an owner AND pro wrench

Btw...what do you think a fair price is for a shop to delete both my cats, add a pair of hi flo cats and do an Xpipe to the stock resonators?

Would you buy a magnaflow pre made x or fab it customs?

Thanks!

Brian

Learning very quickly that the rudeness level here is much higher than the C32 forums.

I just bought an E55 a month ago.

As for the rest of you guys, thanks for the info. Good insight. I just did the res delete. Now I need to find a shop that'll do the secondary cats and swap in an X-pipe. Last question: Anyone with this current set up have sound clips?

Looks like you replaced the H pipe with the X pipe there. Is that correct? I was thinking of getting that MBH X pipe for sale.

Magnaflow and labor for x pipe + resonators should be 200$ - 300$

Thanks guys, that helps.

Even with the adjustment for the DC area "tax" I should be good for less than $500.
Of course i need to buy cats as well.

+1... that's why i threw in the "trolling" comment since he was calling tgoss a troll yesterday (which is ridiculous since tgoss has plenty of good info contributed) and then this guy also on a 172MM pulley thread where he basically called out the whole thread as "trolling", then comes on here and ask a question that has been asked and answered 100 times in 100 threads and doesnt expect to be called a troll back lol
