Need new rims\tires setup - Suggestions??
I have had it with the OEM rims\tires. I have had to replace 3 tires and 2 rims now due to cracks and bubbles on my E55. I have never had to replace a damaged tire or rim on any car I have ever own including my old C32. This OEM setup on the E55 is a bad joke gone wild, and nothing but a real PITA. I love my ride, but this is gonna stop today.... I have searched the threads, but have not found a setup I like. I like the silver look of the OEMs, and would like to NEVER have to replace a cracked rim or damaged tire again, unless I really hit something (not just regular careful driving). I would also like to get a benefit from a lighter rim to help lower my 1\4 mile ET.
PS - Don't want to have to modify anything (rolled fenders, spacers, etc...)

I think 18s are fine for these cars. Just looking for a nice style (better than OEM) with lighter weight. I like the deep dish look I had on my BMW 540i. Would like a nice rim that has proven itself on our cars. I've never cracked a rim before, now I have two of them with this car. AMG rims suck!!!

well youre not going to find any better made wheels than Blackbenz's KInesis wheels , these are the original Kinesis before the company was sold .. meaning some of the best made wheels ever made ... very few companies now can match the quality of Kinesis , I have the K19 in 19s for my E55 .

The Forgestar F14s seem to be some of the lightest rims and are also some of the least expensive rims for our cars. HREs are very nice as well, but quite a bit more expensive.

OZ wheels are top line and used in many races, including rallies.
Their product can withstand more abuse, but no rims or tyres are hole proof.

i feel bad for what ever store you buy your tires from. 99% of the time, the said problems are the customers fault and not the tires and wheels. tires just dont get impact breaks from hitting little cracks in the road, and rims dont just crack from hitting little cracks and pot-holes. your either hitting some decent things, or letting your tires get to low and hitting things with under inflated tires, so there is no air to cushion the blow. and the only reason i say this is its what i deal with every day.
edit: if your replacing for aesthetics thats another story

Your request or inquiry is very confusing . do you want to change from OEM because you want a better look .. or are you after an indestructible wheel/tire ? if the latter , then there is no such thing yes with larger wheels than OEM , 19 and 20s you have to be extra careful but if you cracked two OEM wheels .. sorry but it looks like youre doing something wrong and you have to be careful with ANY wheel, and make sure your tires are always properly balanced and inflated to the correct pressure

+1.
There's nothing wrong with AMG rims; they are actually TUV approved, and I would trust them way more than most of the cheap crap wheels being sold these days.

As a general rule, any set of cast wheels will be heavier than forged wheels and CF wheels will be lighter than forged wheels. And, bigger wheels will be heavier than smaller wheels.
18 inch wheels are a great choice as you have many tire options if you are looking for semi-slicks or slicks.

You are absolutely correct Sir.
Real CF wheels cost an arm and a leg and a kidney.
I was trying to say the same thing. Generally, Forged 20" wheels will be heavier than forged 19" wheels.
However, cast wheels are stronger than forged wheels and don't get cracked or bent easily.

Sorry but REAL CF wheels are very rare and outrageously expensive .. now wheels with a CF wrap are a dime a dozen out there but these arent CF wheels, also larger wheels dont always weigh more than smaller ones , I have seen many 20" forged wheels weighing in less than cast 18s..

" A forged aluminum wheel has a higher specific strength as well as higher toughness (engineering term for its ability to absorb energy) in comparison to a casting. This allows an engineer to design a wheel that is lighter, stiffer and less susceptible to cracking under impact and with better fatigue properties than a casting." and heres a link to the website article http://www.hrewheels.com/blog/cast-w...forged-wheels/

Former Vendor of MBWorld
Just a quick snap of what we delivered to a customer recently. These would be very light, they can be purchased in monoblock configuration and ordered in any color finish you'd want.
Here is how they look on another application! Let me know what you think!
