TCU Tuned folks, lets talk...
Wondering some of these recent blown trannys have anything to do with the tcu tunes?
Randomly sometimes from a 1st gear wot, i feel slight tranny slip i think, almost like a faint wheel hop type feel (but isnt), and started to happen since the tcu tune... car only has 45k miles ...
Talking to a buddy who also has the tcu tune from a different company experiences the same thing.... should we be concerned?
Thoughts?

My blown trans had nothing to do with the TCU. It was from the trans flush I had done a few weeks before. As it turned out the fluid was low and the trans over heated. I have the TCU on my new trans now and have zero issues. It even feels a lot stronger than the other trans did. No wheel hop or spin. It shifts in the blink of an eye as soon as I hit the shift button. And I drive in M mode all the time.

Mine is sound too, shifts quick, and can definitely tell a difference, definitely satisfied here. I leave mine in S mode 100% of the time, and just kick down with the paddles if need be.

Its not a wheel hop, but that sort of feeling, during S-1 and WOT from a roll...like the car is trying to go, but some hesitation is occurring? Its intermittent however... weird

i recently got a TCU tune as well and have been experiencing slip-like issues with my tranny. sometimes after i take a slow right or left turn, the car stays in 2nd gear and the rpms rise to about 2000 then drop down to 1500 and start going again, it's like the TQ converter isnt locking up. I've reset my adaptations and still have the same intermittent issues. All this started happening after the TCU tune. as far as being able to tell a difference, it feels exactly the same as stock. The steering wheel buttons still take ages to respond in M mode and the shifts aren't any harder or faster than stock...

And have you contacted them about NO changes for your money?

TCU was done by EC. I don't really expect a refund from them since the whole tuning thing is subjective. I would honestly rather have my stock file back on my TCU and save my tranny but I don't want to be stuck without a car for a week again by having to send out my TCU and paying $80 to ship it there

Im scared too. Arent these trannys "life time" oil, have read some horror stories of tranny oil change, than shortly after tranny problems...
Even if esp is off?
Heres some info from the man himself Cory...

I highly doubt it's slipping- our programmers are increasing line pressure as much as they can, which would have the opposite effect- it is less likely to slip. You can have your dealer pull the adaptation data for the EGS controller which will tell them if it's slipping or not.
No gearbox leaks? It's very common for the connector sleeve on the gearbox to leak past the O-rings, even on lower mileage cars.
100% sure fluid level is correct?

Fluid level requires a special dipstick from the dealer- these cars don't come with gearbox dipsticks from the factory, unfortunately. I'd also have your gearbox checked for leaks from the underside- often times that connector will leak, but the splash-pan will catch the oil (often times it's a VERY slow leak) and you'll never see a spot on your garage floor. It's a very common problem on 5-speed cars- there was even a TSB issued for that exact problem. I recently replaced one in a 2003 SL55 that has only 15K miles on it.
It's odd that it's intermittent- usually, when a tune file causes a problem, it will happen all the time and will be easy to consistently duplicate. The hotter a gearbox gets, the more sensitive it is to fluid level being correct, and since we're increasing line pressure, it only exacerbates the sensitivity, which might be why you're feeling it now, and didn't before the EGS tune.
If you have access to a factory DAS machine, I'd recommend reading out adaptation data- that will for sure tell you if it's slipping or not, and I'd also get under there and closely inspect the electrical connector going to the gearbox- if it's wet, even just a little bit, you'll need a new connector and the fluid level checked/topped off. They can also check the condition of the gearbox oil as well- if it's dark red, or burnt smelling, it's definitely time to change the fluid/filter.

Not having a Kleemann tune I dont know if he would do that... lol
However can I use your star im log mine and see what he says...
Any other thoughts about what Cory said... this connector thing needing replacment?
I want to do a tranny oil change, but am scared!

Ya, read a lot of bad things happening after the flush.. I think if you just do a drain and then refill the fluid you shouldnt have any issues.

Since no one else seemed to notice your question.... This is normal, I see about a 10% drop, also drops a bit of timming at the same time, I belive this built in to help save the trans from making full power shifts.

Thanks for the response, I kinda figured most guys aren't data logging and might not have known. I figured it was probably normal and being used to save the tranny during shifts, I jsut hadn't data logged before the tranny tune so I didn't have anything to compare to.

Sneaky...what are you thoughts about changing tranny fluids, diff fluids?
