another issue that I noticed is that my stereo sound settings get reset from time to time (bass, terble, logic 7 gets reset to factory settings). does anyone have this problem?

damn csmungi that's awesome..looks so clean. i bet it looks even cleaner with the piano black shroud. my only worry is that since i'll lose all the buttons surrounding the screen, will i be losing any of the stock functions?
also, how hard is it to remove the interior trim? i'm thinking about tackling the cf wrap with the help of my gf over a weekend.
thanks for the attention everyone.

On another note, I installed my paint matched gloss black dash kit and finally installed the new screen. You'll love going aftermarket. It just offers so much more. I had a Kenwood DNX9960 but just recently gave that one to my father and picked up the Kenwood DNX9990HD. With the new head unit, you can do stuff like this! (ignore the dirt and dust in the photos LOL. I took the photos right after the install)
(still need to adjust my hidden front bumper camera)
If you do it right, the new screen can blend in well with the entire interior. The lower dash of the CLS is identical to the E. I say go aftermarket and don't look back!

2007 E350 /// AMG Sport Saks Fifth Avenue "Key to the Cure" Edition
I don't have an E55 but my lower dash layout is identical to it. I have a CLS55 and I replaced my stock Comand with an aftermarket one. I had a Kenwood DNX9960 for 2 years and just recently replaced it with a Kenwood DNX9990HD. I also have a front and rear cam now connected to it since I have the full Prior Design kit installed (I know I'm probably being **** lol).
I did the entire install myself and the only hard part was running the audio cables to the rear since I am powering the stock speakers with an aftermarket amp. The stock speakers with more power sound AWESOME!!! The dash kit (faceplate) you need is from Scosche and I'll link the model number below. It's the kit I used in my car. It's a double DIN BUT there is a bracket in the middle. All you need to do is dremel it out. See pics below.

Hey cmusngi, I went through your whole build and I have to say it was a work of art, great job!
I have a 2007 E350 w/ factory Nav/Harmon Kardon and am definitely interested in swapping out the stock HU for an aftermarket one. A couple questions...I would like to keep my stock speakers as well, do I have to install an aftermarket amp or can I just have a new HU installed? I know next to nothing when it comes to car audio, but I would like to try and at least buy all the equipment myself (new baby = saving $$$) and then have a pro install it. If I do need an aftermarket amp, any suggestions on one to buy? I don't need the biggest and baddest, just something thats going to work real well and won't totally break the bank. My front center sounds like it is rattling, so any suggestions on that would be great as well.
Thanks!

i dont know if its a big deal to you, but that font looks "dated" to me. I want something more crisp and clean. Arial to be exact. and one reason why i want to upgrade the stock is to get a bigger screen. you'd think MB would put a bigger screen in a better location for a 2009 model right?

Does the DNX9990HD output song info to the center gauge cluster (i.e. inside the speedo?)
I could probably live without that...so long as the steering wheel controls still worked... I do like that...

2005 E55, 2011 Honda Push Mower (21 inch deck bishes)
Bumping this thread, as it's almost tax return time and oh how I need something better in my E55 than the COMAND NTG-1 head unit. I assume after 2 years the Dynavin units are still pure ****? Any other nice looking options? I have an aftermarket amp/crossover/speakers/and sub, so I assume I could easily just do a double DIN dash kit and add the touchscreen unit of my liking? I'm just assuming that if I yank my current deck out I will see the adapter(s) used to convert fiber to RCA since I already have a system. Anyways, anyone else slapped something worthwhile in their dash this year?
