Aftermarket Headunit
Tried my luck over at the W211 subforum..no luck (surprise, surprise).
Ok so I've checked out all 9-10 pages of AMGFAN's audio build and holy ****....
I know the interior of the facelift model and the pre-facelift model is different.
So my question is, has anybody with a face-lifted W211 with navi done any custom headunit fitting? I'm really not happy with that little *** screen.
Thanks in advance!

Yea, the unit has all of those features built in. Integrated Bluetooth with phone sync (mic is much better than stock), Garmin navigation (100x better than stock), DVD, iPod interface with control toggle, rear camera added, and you can add other inputs if desired.

just checked it out on crutchfield..wow that's a pretty sick HU. i'm liking it, but not liking the price tag. i'm well aware that one needs to pay to play. i'm just not a baller yet don't have that kind of disposable income.
as far as steering wheel controls, how easy/hard was it to integrate the controls to the new HU?

Nice HU. Can you use the steering wheel?

i just asked him that..
after reading up on it, it looks like steering wheel control integration is available for this HU with the purchase of an additional adapter.
i'd like to hear ziggityzen's input on this if he had this integrated.

was this a DIY project for you? if so, was it pretty straight forward just plug and play? or was there a lot of difficult wiring involved?

Definitely not plug and play. I had a shop do it since all new wiring had to be ran from front to rear. I believe the 09s have different wiring though.

Never a fan of the aftermarket look
Besides every pioneer AVIC unit I've had( at least three in three different cars) has had issues with the touchscreen. Very frustrating and not worth it .

That's weird..I've had a POS Dual double-din HU and it never caused any problems, but my brothers pioneer AVIC HU is nothing but problems. Maybe it's the AVIC units..

The Dynavin unit is the nicest replacement headunit for the E class. It looks oem and has a ton added features.

I know most of the posters here are about HP gains, but is there anybody else that can share their aftermarket HU upgrade? 07-09 W211 preferred.
Thanks again folks.

Anyone seen the new Alpine Perfect fit ? Got an add from crutchfield on it. i wish they would support our cars.
I wonder how many cars they need to do it.

CLS 55 AMG, FX45, F-350, Top Secret Widebody Supra (Sold) and other vehicles on another Planet
I don't have an E55 but my lower dash layout is identical to it. I have a CLS55 and I replaced my stock Comand with an aftermarket one. I had a Kenwood DNX9960 for 2 years and just recently replaced it with a Kenwood DNX9990HD. I also have a front and rear cam now connected to it since I have the full Prior Design kit installed (I know I'm probably being **** lol).
I did the entire install myself and the only hard part was running the audio cables to the rear since I am powering the stock speakers with an aftermarket amp. The stock speakers with more power sound AWESOME!!! The dash kit (faceplate) you need is from Scosche and I'll link the model number below. It's the kit I used in my car. It's a double DIN BUT there is a bracket in the middle. All you need to do is dremel it out. See pics below.
Scosche Dash Kit For 2003 and Up Mercedes E-Class (model Mz2345).
This is what it looks like installed in my CLS55 (with the older screen)
I decided to paint match the Dash kit and trim, so I pulled it back out and had my body shop paint it gloss black. I just recently put it back in with the new screen. It's a perfect fit and looks close to factory in my opinion. I'll get pics up in a day or two.

damn csmungi that's awesome..looks so clean. i bet it looks even cleaner with the piano black shroud. my only worry is that since i'll lose all the buttons surrounding the screen, will i be losing any of the stock functions?
also, how hard is it to remove the interior trim? i'm thinking about tackling the cf wrap with the help of my gf over a weekend.
thanks for the attention everyone.
