Oh wow THAT hose....well, I certainly appreciate the knowledge, sir - I'm going to give that a check tonight and see what I find. Many thanks

Yes worryingly it seems entirely absent??
It has a plastic section that snakes over the valve cover to the front of the engine bay....

Really?? What the hell, how could this have gone missing...wow, so much fail.
I'm gonna look around for pictures of where it connects into the front of the engine. Or could you tell me where abouts I should look for it to be connected?

Yep here it is:

I couldn't see where the connecting hose was though...knowing my luck it might have dropped under the 'charger and I'll have to unbolt that just to get to it![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
However...it's a relief to know what the problem was and that it can be fixed (or hopefully it can!).

There should be a black grommet in the area - see pic with arrow - where you just insert that metal line into.

ok so I've had a gooooood look around and can't see any such gromet or pipe to connect this thing to.
Can somebody please tell me where that gromet leads to, and/or what the function of the thing is? Could I not just cap it off? Where does it feed into?

You sir, are extremely helpful. Thank you! ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I have to ask though....would there have been an additional hose or connector to get it to connect? The metal line is pretty form and looks like it'll take some moving to get to that place....how the hell did it get so far back and disconnected :| It's not like I wrestled the intakes off the car.

No problem. There should have been a small bracket on one of the the rear valve cover bolts which holds this metal line in place. You need to remove that bolt in order to free the line. The line then inserts into the black grommet, then replace valve cover bolt. You are only off 8mm judging by last photo you posted.
No additional parts, you have everything you need.

Thanks for your help guys, problem is now sorted, woohoo ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I fitted the new gaskets and made sure that metal pipe was inside it's home on friday evening. Went out with the mrs and same problem, arrggghhhh!!!! She was not impressed. I could see the problem at the roadside though, the little pipe that goes under the throttle body was stretched uncomfortably off center so it was leaking air from there. Next day I fitted that nice n secure (it was jammed under a bit of the surge tank so couldn't yank it at the roadside) after taking surge tanks off again and now it's running beautifully. Gave the TB shaft a good mill down as well while it was off road and it's nicely responsive now at low load.
Now all I have to do is convince myself to keep this car and add more boost, or to keep it stock and sell it in the new year :p

Yes so much knowledge has been gained there! I really didn't know about the hanging idle thing being a tell tale sign. I'll take this experience to my Celica as I tend to mod that car more and am likely to have leaks on that.

@victorw46355k Check around the 1 minute mark, do you mean that connection? That connection is for the purge valve on the drivers side. It runs past the side along the fuel supply hose (which connects to the fuel rail) and plugs into the connection on the bottom left of the throttle body
