Wow, I've never had any issues down there but I always price check them and their parts are usually higher than other dealerships. Please keep us posted on how this progresses. Like most of the others reading this, I'd retain the services of a good attorney and go the legal route.

BTW: FJ just opened a new dealership in Ontario :D

Wow, I bought my vehicle CPO from Penske in San Diego. They were actually quite pleasant in sales. But the service I felt like I was being shafted. I now live in Phoenix area, so I go to Schumacher, and they are the only ones I trust. I can't get my car on a regular tow truck right now to get it to them, and I've been busy with other stuff. This post scares me with some dealers, and the fact that I'm out of warranty as well.

hyperion667 07-25-2012 08:22 AM

sheesh.......sorry to hear this.......
I went to their website to try and find a way to talk some smack to them but they
are without a contact us tab.....
LOL

Go legal and be sure to involve MB USA on your issue. Tell MB USA they should take action aganist this dealer who has on many occasions tried underhand tactics and its messing up MB's image. Perhaps get your ducks in a row first and cnfm the exact problem on your car and get it in writing from these guys. Say u need it for insurance purposes. Then get your car off them and have it inspected by MB USA, and release armageddon.

moosejaw 07-25-2012 08:57 AM

Hate to be a doubting thomas but I would not venture to think that MBUSA will do anything to help.
They'll claim the dealer is a franchise, they have nothing to do with them and your situation and your left alone in your battle.

cij911 07-25-2012 09:21 AM

Good luck and take your car to a good independent....

stevebez 07-25-2012 09:34 AM

Mbe its different there but in my old home town in South Africa, the dealer franchises were heavily policed by HQ. I know as my old man had a Toyota dealership. They would very often impose fines etc for not meeting customer satifaction indices etc. Also they would get involved in disputes like this. Thing is if any dealership were found to be wavering in terms of their honesty they could lose their franchise, although the process was often one of working out the issue and moving on.

Cars today are sold on product design & company image - its really all that differentiates them, the techonology is remarkably uniform. So if you lose imgae you lose sales....

Good luck with this.

You are correct as my family owned a small MB dealership in greater london in the 90s. Unfortunately that's why I'm a MB Fanboy. But here in the USA which is MB's biggest market, they dont want to alienate the dealer. They wont get involved and i only say that because ive seen it first hand. Moving numbers is more important than customer satisfaction. The only customers that get support are repeat customers that buy 2-3 cars at a time and trade in every 3 years. These are the customers that the dealer pays attention to and so does MBUSA.

I've owned 5 MBs in the last 15 years with service done at the same dealer with the exception of the E55. I feel like I've changed service advisors more times than my own oil. The turnover at dealers here is high. Most employees are transfers in from Nissans and Chevy dealaers as in my dealership as many are owned by Autonation. Just like Penske who owns several car dealers, I would surmise the same thing happens there as well.

abiazis 07-25-2012 11:08 AM

As advised previously per AMG PL......you must DOCUMENT no matter what you do.....this will not be handled overnight........:smash:

msheredy 07-25-2012 12:02 PM

The penske dealerships here in SD aren't any better either. Must be their corporate policy to try and screw customers.

Yep! If you're ever back in SD and in need of service Nicks Auto in Downtown is where I take mine. Ask for Jim, Nick's son, dude is THE most honest auto mechanic I've ever come across.

That's exactly the same dealer tried to screw me....... they even quoted engine mount and tranny mount for $1500 wtf..... then joy ride my car for 41 miles/ half tank of gas. Terrible dealer...... I told them do not take my car home or out but .........

novae500 07-25-2012 12:46 PM

seems that the techy that test drove the car did some major damage to it. Or could it be when they washed it and got water inside while the car was still running??? Either way, i sure wouldnt want the car back at all .

MB Corp wont do squat, i called and complained about goodwiill on the fuel sending units and they said it was up to the local dealer mgr to give any goodwill.

CharlyE500 07-25-2012 12:48 PM

I should have checked feedback before taking my care over there..... never again. I will visit the FJ Ontario if they really going to open.

Hmmm.... House of Imports???? I think not.
They got caught red-handed with my situation and refused to even acknowledge. To them, I am "collateral damage". They don't care about one customer if they can get away with screwing over multiple customers without the customers even knowing it. It's all about turning a profit. $$$$$ talks. All we can do is warn our fellow enthusiasts to stay away from certain dealers.

Ouch! I would definitely get a lawyer if possible. An 80mile test drive? Someone was having a little too much fun in your car. That's one thing i would have never approved anyone to do, especially a dealer. Good luck.

ive been to this dealer once...

thought I broke something inside of my rear view mirror, for othe life of me I couldn't get it to stay in one position... and Penske WC was nice enough to tell me that it was 1100 to replace it to get it replaced since there was no way to fix it.

ends up being that there was a spring that popped out... local MB shop fixed it for FREE!

Screw that dealership. I would do anything and everything to get your car replaced by these POS!

Best of luck my friend.

abiazis 07-30-2012 08:36 AM

You would think that AMG would have a special hotline for AMG only to support the most enthusiastic owners of the MB brand.......

They would rather make all of us angry enough never to recommend an AMG again......

It would be nice if AMG stood behind their engines in this case..........

When it is an AMG engine issue, AMG should be involved or the first place to call to start the investigation.......

Makes too much sense.......

Car dealer whether it's a Kia or a Lambo are all third class people and yes you will run into them from time to time with no luck. I have had bad experience not only with Toyota but mercedes, BMW and even Porshce.

The trick is to be as thorough as possible in your PPI, review the car fax, service history and trsut nothing but the PAINT METER and get every thing in writing or else get ready to bend over.

Sorry to hear about your incident. Hopefully it will be resolved soon

zneB-sedecreM 07-30-2012 10:58 AM

Always take pictures of your car and the mileage right before you hand the keys off to the dealer. I've been practicing doing that, not a single complaint from me since. The dealership and body shop I go to knows to not mess with me lol

Peter_02AMG 07-30-2012 11:00 AM

I once left a really bad comments on a survey the kind of survey they sent you each time you buy a car or had your car serviced. I did not think it will do any good to give them a bad review and comments but someone at MB USA called me in a few days and asked me for detail of what happen and from that moment on the SA was nice to me each time i take my car in.

Also I did another survey for a different MB dealership and my SA called me back and thanks me for the nice comments. I did not know these survey can be read by the dealer or SA.:nix:

abiazis 07-30-2012 12:28 PM

Main thing is don't give up.....be a pest......send them letters every day if you have to on status of the issue......call, etc...

Good luck.

take it from a lawyer. You brought your car with a problem to diagnose. Diagnosis was done incorrectly and THEY blew your motor. They will have to prove the motor would hydrolock if you didnt bring it there, which is next to impossible.

Small claims court lawyer. It shouldnt cost you more than $1000-$2500 to get a judgement in your favor. Lawyer costs are often added to the amount.

Canadian laws, your laws may vary, but that should be the jist of it.
