2006 E55
Dazed and confused

Hello all...new to the MB world, very excited about my 2005 E55 AMG just purchased it 3 months ago...56k miles love it so far. Ive owned 2 other sprot sedans: 2003 RS6 Audi, and 2008 M5. Both great cars.

Question I have is: why is my car shutting down at 140mph. Ive taken the car to the dealership they are stummped.

The ECU is stock and fine they tell me.

Any advise would be helpful.

Maybe someone lowered the top speed through STAR to prevent the wrong tires going 155?

Get it tuned and you'll have more power and no speed limiter cut off.

STAR Diagnostics is the computer dealers use to diagnose problems and perform tests on the car, and what us people use to lower the car, cool the car down with -10 mod, integrate functions that were shut off from factory, etc.

So with that being said...can i go to a dealership and ask them to "turn it back on" and get it back to the top speed of 155?

Yea Dealer will most likely not do it unless you know them or if they ARE mod friendly they might help you out. If its in the budget, Call Jerry over at Eurocharged and get the famous 'Jerry Tune'. moves speed limiter and its a great add on HP and TRQ wise.

I had the same problem, my car would seem to hit a limiter at 230kph ( 143mph ). Replaced the incooler pump and fixed the problem.

Don't listen to these cowboys and run out and get a tune just yet. Driftvs raises a good point. intercooler pumps are notorious for failing completely or producing low flow which leads to high intake air temps which leads to the ECU shutting down the Supercharger for safety. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it could be at least part of it. If you are comfortable with it, have the dealer check out you IC pump and flash the ECU with the latest updates while they are at it.

If you would rather not involve the dealer, then answer me this. Do you notice a significant power loss in the car after back to back hard pulls?

Once you get a few things answered then listen to the cowboys if you are into mods. They won't steer you wrong.
