Go to another dealer
Get them to comp the 105 service charge if they do the repair.
They know what the problem is, just being dicks.

MBUSA will work with the dealer, basically all parts free and you pay labor. About 1200-1500$ but tank will be changed ...trust me
But you gotta fight and fight with them it's not an easy process will tak a few days but the dealer will eventually cave

I was thinking about that but the next nearest dealer is almost an hour drive each way. And were very tight on funds right now so we cant really afford to have a repair done that would cost $1-2,000. I will email my old dealer in Naperville, because they were very good to us, and they also did the recall work in 2009, Not 2008(My bad on the date, thought it was 2008.). The service manager there would always fix small things for free even though we never mentioned they were broken, out of warranty too. And we only lived a good 2 blocks away. I would always go over there and look at the AMGs. He even let me sit in a black SLR. I was overwhelmed I actually got to sit in it let a lone look at it behind the posts with the red velvet looking like ropes in between. Anyways, if hes still there, I am sure he would be more than happy to help us out. It would make the 2 hour drive worth it.
Alrighty then, here are the service records. Page 2 shows the recall performed in 2009.

It's not the recall part that's bad it's the TANK.... That's the reason they don't want to change it because the tank is about 2000$ plus labour
I am aware of this. I am just simply showing that the recall was in fact performed. That's all.
Looking back at the service history, my dad had a lot of jump starts and audio problems.. Hahahahah

It doesn't really matter if the recall was done or not because alot of people have not done the recall and have no problems and vice versa
This is another problem all together hence why the nhtsa is trying to force MB to fix this but since this is not a 10$ fix but a few thousand dollars fix it will be a fight from MB
At this time the best thing that will be offered to anyone will be MB pays the parts and the owner pays the labour
If you have an extended warranty then the warranty would obviously cover it

No warranty here. As shown on the VMI on page 5 and 6 i believe it says non warranty work or something like that
EDIT: bottom of page 4, it says Customer pay data, guess thats there way of saying cash money.

It is 100% up to the individual dealer whether or not they want to assist with the costs on any out of warranty repairs.Calling MBUSA directly will most likely not be of any help, they will refer you back to the local dealer. The dealer can cover up to 100% of the parts and labor or anything in between, they can cover parts only, labor only, or even split the bill right down the middle. This is called a "goodwill" policy. Each dealer is allotted a certain dollar amount for "goodwill" to be paid by MBUSA. The dealer looks at several things in deciding to issue "goodwill." The length of mileage or time out of factory warranty; the history of said customer with dealership, the overall condition of the car, meaning has the owner maintained it, etc. I will tell you from experience the good customers who service their cars exclusively at the dealership, or buy a lot of new cars, are given priority with goodwill. That is the purpose of the program, to retain good customers. Customers who service their car outside of the dealership, i.e. at independent shops, and then come looking for something for free usually will leave with little or nothing towards the repair.
Another reality of owning any Mercedes, no one has much sympathy for any of us when it comes to repairs. The fact that we choose to drive expensive cars means expensive repair bills, especially on AMG products. A lot of people buy a car they cannot afford to maintain. I see it every day at the dealership, people can afford the monthly lease payment but don't have money for tires, or maintenance. I bought an E55 because I can fix it myself, and get good prices on parts. I would not recommend to anyone to buy an AMG product, or even a Mercedes in general without some type of warranty, unless you can either fix it yourself, or have money to burn. You have to pay to play, don't forget these cars sold new for upwards of $80,000..and the parts aren't getting any cheaper.

No, I and a few others have gone through this and MBUSA gave in to free parts but the customer pays the Labor,in other words, MB said to the dealers no charge but you guys get the labor
There's NO way everything will be free
There's NO way everything will be free
How much would labor be to replace a fuel tank?

Can you give us some more information as to how we can go about bugging them to cover the parts? It sure would help me save a good bit of money for what I need to get done...Originally Posted by Hulk

Basically we went in there and spoke and caused a commotion,no yelling.. call MBUSA ( but they will refer you back to the dealership) but its documented, tell the dealership that you have contacted MB and have documented paper work of who when you spoke with someone, and don't give up, it's not a secret, just big the crap out of them and they will give in, have all your facts ready every single time you talk to the dealership and MBUSA
Make your complaint with the nhtsa and have your complaint number, when you talk to MBUSA and the dealership
Again it will cost you the labour which is about 1500$ but much better than 3000-4000$

I don't think you guys understand this completely. The only time the tank needs to be replaced is when you have a Evap system leak. If you have a raw fuel leak you need either senders or seals.

I went through this and have the work orders to prove it, the only thing that ended up fixing the issue was a new tank
I'm not the only one that a new gas tank fixed the issue

Shifter, and others.... There are at least 3 different areas where these leaks are occuring:
The top of the tank elbow area that connects to the charcoal canister; the LH fuel sender itself, or most likely the tank pressure sensor; or the LH or RH seal rings for the senders. Also the tank flanges where the seals sit can warp and cause a leak...It could be one, or all. Hard to tell without spending a lot of diagnostic time and effort since the gas flows downhill. The proper repair is to replace EVERYTHING..Fuel tank, LH sender, LH and RH sender seals, and other seals used to attached the various hoses to the tank. Any of these leaks will cause raw fuel to leave the tank. Some of these leaks only occur when the tank is completely filled, and will subside as the level drops. Sometimes you will get a CEL if the evap leak test fails . However this test is only performed by the engine ECU under specific circumstances.

This is what a leak from the top of the tank looks like...In time, it will fill the sender area full of fuel which sometimes leads to an incorrect diagnosis of a leaking fuel sender.

And that's what ended happening with me and a few others when we paid for out of pocket for sender, with alot of complaining and calls to MBUSA and nhtsa and emails and I guess they felt we were threatening, they ended up caving at paying labour and they will eat the parts cost...we are 5 people that the dealership ended up doing this, so if you want it fixed now this will be only way, however if you can wait for a recall wait it out, the ones who did pay with get a reimbursement when a recall is issued

I have seen hundereds of leaks fixed without replacing the tank. It all depends on the circumstance.

Others reading your post are getting incorrect information and I am simply trying to un-muddy the waters surrounding these fuel leaks. The leak from the top of the tank, can, in fact, cause a raw fuel leak. And you are correct, it does depend on the situation. I have also seen a lot of fuel senders/seals replaced only to see the same cars come back weeks, or months later with the tank leaking up top. Tough sell to a customer at that point. Next they think, was the sender really leaking?
