NEED THE PROS ADVICE!

Experienced E55 owners, I just tried to fire up the benz to get to my eye appt. and all I got was the car trying to turn over with no engine start up. Do I have a fuel sender issue or what? Thanks Gents! DG

What he said. If you want to check the fuel pump, press the shrader valve on the fuel rail. Fuel should spray out with force for 1-2 sec with the eng off. If its just a dribble it may take more investigation. Just be careful, cover it with a rag when you do it. 90% of the time, crank sensor.

Is it happening like this?:

That's what's happening to my car and I couldn't get it to pull any CEL codes, so I'm not leaning towards Crank Position Sensor anymore... having the car towed to the stealership now.

The CPS usually fails under high heat conditions. As soon as it cools off, it will generally work properly. Try starting again after a while. If it starts no problem, chances are high it is the CPS. IT is a fairly easy DIY to replace.

It is a little hard to hear, but it doesn't sound like the engine is cranking at all. Is that correct? If so, I doubt it is the CPS either. When my CPS failed, the engine would crank, but no attempt to fire at all and then time out. It sounded very much like a car without gas trying to start. You could hear the starter motor turn over the engine and that was it.

I think I heard a faint cranking....

It is possible to have a bad CPS and not have codes, FYI.

It does crank, it just doesn't turn over. Hmmm... I wonder if I should have tried changing the CPS before I had them tow it... Oh well I definitely hope it's the CPS and nothing more serious. My situation was weird because it literally happened an hour after I last drove the car without any signs of anything going bad.

When my CPS was going bad it did not throw a code the first couple times it died. The third time it did.

Easy DIY, provided you don't have giant mitts (me.

Hot restart, sounds like a crank sensor. Open the hood to let it cool for a while, then try starting it. If it starts, replace the crank sensor

I tried it the next day and same thing happened... We'll see what the stealership says.

I just went ahead and bought a new CPS since they're around $45 if I remember right. Figure my cars an 03 and service history doesn't mention ever replacing it. Better safe then sorry for $45 and a few minutes work.

Gents! Thanks for all your comments, I let it cool down and it fired right up. However I have a check engine light on now so I take it is the CPS? dealership cost? DIY cost?

Thanks again!
