2004 W211 E55 AMG >>gone but not forgotten > W123 280E > W124 E280 > W126 380SE
Still have work to do under the hood but popped the shield on last night and pretty happy so far with how she's looking. Still need to paint the overflow tank bolts black and please ignore the loose bolt on the intake as that was in the process of being removed.

Disregard the ricer air cleaner. I have a custom stainless intake waiting to be installed. I threw it on there to keep unwanted things out of the TB.

What color and name brand paint did you use?

That looks nice.

Thanks!

The valve covers and surge tanks are done in VHT Wrinkle Plus Black "SP201", primed then painted.

The SC is sprayed in VHT Engine Enamel Universal Aluminum "SP127", no primer, 2-3 light coats

2 more questions.
What primer was used for the valve covers and surge tanks?

Does the aluminum paint smear or rub off on your fingers or hands if touching it. Some silver and aluminum colors will do that.

Nice. Thanks for the info.

Sorry man, I made a mistake. I used a different paint for the SC. I had the other paint I mentioned around for something else. The pic below is correct. DupliColor Engine Enamel Primer, 2 coats on the surge tanks. The SC was 2-3 coats, no primer and hit with VHT Flame Proof Header Paint. No rub off anywhere. I let it dry for days before handling it.

Old thread, new guy

Hey guys I know this is an old thread but I have been going back and forth on if I should paint my surge tanks and engine cover on my sl55. Thinking a black and red like one of the first pics shown. Wondering how well the paint is holding up on these. Looking for positive and negative feedback. I have people both telling me to customize/personalized it and leave it stock. Curious on what other amg owners think. Thanks!

Does anybody know the part number for the insulation that’s attached to the firewall on the w211? Iv tried google but only can find the insulation that attaches to the hood. Even a name would do, mine needs replaced yesterday. Thanks in advance

I painted my tanks and valve covers over a year ago with VHT Krinkle Black and it's held up great so far. No fading or flaking and the texture is perfect. I painted my supercharger at the same time with caliper paint, also still holding up great.
